I voted for 37 but now I am not sure. It was either 36, skipped 37 then did on 38 and 39, or 37, skipped 38 and did on 39. I think the first one.
i had group b with my second and third. got iv antibiotics in labour and kept in 3 days to check theirtemperatures. they were both fine. I wasn't checked for dilation until i was in labour with all 3 of my babies. maybe that is the uk for you lol
she was fine... the group b didnt affect her at all.. all they did was hook up a bag of antibiotics in my iv.. so i didn't pass it to her.. my doctor never told me i tested positive .. during labor the nurses hung a bag of antibiotics and i asked why and they said i test positive for group b...
I just tested postive for Group B strep too with my second one! and was positive with my daughter too (my first delivery) Everything was just fine with her, she did not need to be hooked up to any machines, she was perfectly healthy.... everything should be just fine with you and the baby. All the dr's will do is hook you up to antibiotics during the delivery.....They will normally keep you and baby an extra day or so just to make sure that all is well..... Its a good thing to read up on.... but the risk is very low of any infection to be passed on to the baby if you have antibiotics in your system during labor!
did your baby have to be on machines or was he/she ok? The groub b test is when I was talking about. I just wasn't sure what it was called. How long dose it take to get the results back? Is it serious? Anita
they started checking me at 35 weeks thats when they did the groub b test and i was positive so when i delivered they hung a bag of antibiotics... but i ended up delivering at 37 weeks due to pre eclympsia soo...
UPDATE- i went to see my midwife today so i asked her. She said that I will come back in 2 weeks an get a ultrasound YAY! And after that I will be checked for dilation and they will do a test for infection. She said that she will take a sample with a Q-tip thingy to check for a infection. That will be on the 12th. She said that I have to go every week after that. An they will check me every time i come in being that i have had pre-term labor before. So I will be 36 weeks.
I was first checked at my 36 week appt. when they also tested for Group B. But, like Joy already said... dilation and effacement isn't an indicator of labor. I didn't know this until my OB was like "I can check for those things, but really it doesn't matter. It's more for you." My OB also gives me the option of being checked or not. The past 2 appts. I have wanted her to check me, but the previous 2 I didn't because I knew there wasn't going to be anything to write home about :)
So, although it is "fun" to know... it really doesn't mean anything. I am due on Sunday (March 1st) and I am not dilated at all, but I am 50% effaced. And, like I said... my due date is in 2 days! (I am being induced on Monday though... THANK GOODNESS!!!).
I started getting checked at 37 weeks. The problem with checking it is that it won't be any indication when you'll go into labor. You can stay dilated for weeks (as I was). But as you near your due date it helps to know if you're dilated so the doctor can sweep the membranes which will hopefully put you into labor.
I was high risk with my first and I think they normally do not check you until around the same time unless your experiencing pain/cramps or contractions.... Probably depending upon the seriousness.... If your prone to preterm labor then they might not want to fiddle around down there too soon and cause any type of pre-term labor! I would definitely ask your doc about it!
I also got checked at 36 weeks when my doctor did the group b swab. She gave me the choice of being checked everytime I went in from 36-38 weeks. If I didn't want to be she didn't and if I did she checked me. I always got checked of course cuz I was determined to get that baby out! lol
Thanks ladies! I was wondering if any of you are/were high risk? I'm high risk due to my history and my dr specializes in high risk pregnancies. So I'm not sure if I would be checked early because I gave birth at 19 weeks and 5 days with my first pregnancy. ( My baby girl did not live... Natalie Grace DeVall) I guess I will ask today. Thanks again! God Bless, Anita
I started getting checked at my 37 week visit! I think every dr office differs but the standard i would say is around your 37th week unless there are issues going on that would make him check earlier! Your almost there!
My OB does it at 36W, and tha'ts when they also test for Strep B. You ladies who weren't checked did they just give you the antibiotic to be safe you weren't positive?
I started getting checked when I had to go weekly to see the doctor, which I think was at 37 weeks. Also, I was given the 'option' to be checked. She said if she came in the room and I was undressed from the waist down, she knew I wanted to be checked. I always wanted to know, so I stripped for her! lol
i was checked for the first time at 37 weeks and 2 days and was not dilated, at 37 weeks and 6 days i was almost 2 cm dialated, my bp was through the roof, and i was feeling tremendous pressure, so they sent me to the hospital and i delivered at exactly 38 weeks!!!!
i am 36w3d going to the Dr TWICE a week and haven't been checked yet
I took the poll and posted on the other post you wrote...38w was my 'guess' based on what my doctor has told me.
i wasn't checked till i was in labour, and thats after 42 hours of it hehe. Thats the uk for you.
i give birth at 38 weeks and 5 days and didnt get checked even once.
I delivered at 37wks so i never got checked.
I agree with Chantal, it was around 37 weeks, there usually isn't a need to check earlier unless you are having contractions of course.
I was 37 weeks. My midwife didn't feel the need to check me any earlier. Although I had a bloody show at 36 weeks, she wanted to wait until things started picking up. So right around 3the end of my 37 weeks she checked me and I was already 4-5 cm dilated and finally gave birth 2 days later!! All docs are different. I don't think they start before 35-36 weeks unless they see a need to. But like I said, they are all different! You are getting closer!! woo hoo
