Hydrocodone and pregnancy

I woke up Saturday morning with my shoulder acting up and everytime I move my neck I get a very sharp shooting pain down behind my shoulder blade. I've been prescribed hydrocodone for when this acts up but last time was about 5 months ago before I was pregnant. I can't see the chiropractor till Monday afternoon and I haven't gotten any sleep for two nights already.

Is it safe to take a half of hydrocodone? I've tried Tylenol and it doesn't even dull the pain it's just not even worth taking.

I know it's best not to take anything at all but I am in a lot of pain and I worked 9 hours bartending last night and 8 hours today cleaning also. I'm in a lot of pain from the added work.

I know how addictive hydrocodone is. I have taken it for years here and there I don't like it and most the time it just sits in my cabinet. I only take it when the pain gets severe.
It's Sunday and my Dr never really gets back to you in a timely fashion on the weekends. I guess I'll just wait to talk to him in the morning after I see my chiropractor.

I have bad discs in my low back an neck and my dr said that since hydrocodone is so addictive that it is not the first choice for pain relief and should only be given a few doses when nothing else works. He gave me a tens unit that I can use on my neck just not my low back and that helps alot, maybe you cang et one of those for furture pains. He will problable put you on something like ultram or tramodal as some of heard of it that is not addictive but persription. You cannot take any kind of antianflmitory though during pregnancy.

I would call your OB. hydrocodone is actually considered safe during pregnancy, but should only be taken with knowledge and direction of your OB. But it is considered safe in small, monitored doses. Just give them a call and tell them what's going on... they should have someone who can call you tonight. but I know that they prescribed vicodin 5-500 for me this pregnancy to use on breakthrough migraine headaches ( i was taking tylenol #3 but the codeine started making me sick so they switched me) and I can take 1-2 every 6 hours (i never take more than 1 every 8 hours though)...I'm 20wks now...and it was prescribed by my OB so I wouldn't have to keep going to the hospital every time I had a bad migraine....so I know it's safe, but just call if you can and see if they'll give a recommended dose.

I would not take anything, from what I have been told, the dose you take is the dose that is passed onto the baby and can be very harmful. Instead I would call your doctor as soon as you can and see what pregnancy safe pain killer he can give you.
