I WANT A BABY

I was on the pill for about 8 years. I swtiched brands one month before we decided to get pregnant (if this matters). My last period on the pill started on the 28th of November. I finished my pack and didn't start a new one. The last pill (sugar pill) was on the 1st of December, making my last active pill the 25th of November. On the pill I always had 29 day cycles, but I  know that I might not have that off the pill. I was young when I went on the pill and before I did I never kept track of my cycles.
I got my first period after quitting the pill on the 24th of December making it a 26 day cycle.
Since I got my period does that mean that I have ovulated and things should be normal from here on in?
This is my first time ttc so any info that I can get is greatly appreciated. I will be making a DR appointment after the holidays but I always like info from people that have actually been through the experience.
Thanks for any info in advance!

Keep all the advice coming ladies...LOL
Congrats to the expecting ones on here.....
I love all the advice and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My BF and I have decided not to tell many people about TTC (less pressure) so I dont really have anyone to ask questions.
Thank you
Bridget

i was on the pill for 2 years, and I had the cap come off of my root canal and got an infection underneath it, VERY painful so I was taking penicilin to get rid of the infection, and it messed with my birth control and I got pregnant! Unplanned, but definitely a good surprise. My doctor explained to me, even if you've been on the pill and are just coming off of it, and are TTC when your next period starts, your body is back to normal, you've adjusted to not being on it anymore. It shouldn't interfere with a pregnancy if you were to get pregnant right away. My pregnancy has been perfectly healthy so far and I was still taking the pill for about 5 weeks into my pregnancy because I didn't know I was, and all has still been well! Good luck!

when it came to ttc I did what my cousins wife did counted 14 days from the first day of my period and had sex the day before and sure enough I am now 19 weeks pregnant. She has a healthy one year old. just know that is with a regular period (28days) and the down side is you know from the get go that you are pregnant so it seems like you are pregnant for forever.

I was on birth control every time I became pregnant. I never found out I was pregnant until about 6 weeks with the first 2 pregnancies and at 4 weeks this time around. My first pregnancy I was on the bc patch. I found out at 6 1/2 weeks, was taken off the patch, and continued to have a normal and healthy pregnancy. My son is now 3 and healthy as ever. My second pregnancy happened while on the pill. I found out at 5 1/2 weeks, and lost the baby at 7 weeks. This time around I was 4 weeks when I found out I was pregnant and was on the pill this time as well. I am now 16 weeks pregnant and it is a very healthy pregnancy this far.
After coming off of bc you will find youreslf having quite a few irregularities, which is normal. And having your period for only 4 days is nothing bad. I usually have mine for 3 days, stops for a day, and then for 1 more day. It all depends on your body.
But good for you for trying not to put too much stress on the whole situation. But as JotRenee said, your first negative test deffinately fuels the fire so be prepared for that.
I wish you the best of luck in ttc! =)

I usually only bleed for 2-3 days, sometimes 4. It's not the length of time you bleed that matters but how long the cycle itself lasts. The first day of bleeding is the first day of a new cycle. Keep charting (I just write on my calendar--- I have my own "code") and in no time you'll start to see regularities.

You should expect irregularities after bc.  You might get a 4 day flow this month and then you might have a 6 day flow next month.  You might have a 28 day cycle one month, and you might have a 32 day cycle another month.  Hang in there!

Ok sooo as I said before in a post I got my first period after quitting birth control on the 24th of December. making it a 26 day cycle. It has seemed to be a normal flow so far, but today its almost nonexistant. This is my first period off birth control in many years. I was just wondering if I should expect irregularities. Is 4 days considered short? Will it go away and then come back in a day or something equally annoying? LOL....

Sounds like you're doing awesome. Walking on the treadmill is great, too. I would add folic acid to your prenatal. Found this in an article:

"In addition to aiding in the prevention of neural tube defects, folic acid has several other benefits. This water-soluble vitamin helps pregnant women to create the needed additional blood cells. It also plays an essential part in the in other developments of the fetus and placenta. Folic acid is needed in the production of the fetus DNA. According to one study, folic acid deficiencies could possibly be a risk factor for repeat miscarriages, premature infants, and infants with a low birth weight of under five and a half pounds."

I have two daughters (ages 3 and 21 months) and we've been TTC a third baby. I have actually been pregnant 4 times but I only have my two girls. Three-out-of-four of my pregnancies were conceived using a method of checking for ovulation known as "CM Testing".

CM stands for cervical mucous. Ewww, gross. I know! But it's necessary if you want to get pregnant. When you ovulate your cervix will soften and you will have a discharge. You may not have noticed this the past 8 years because you've been on BC. It's important to look for because you'll know you're ovulating after being off the BC.

It will happen about mid-cycle. When you use the restroom and wipe there will be a snot-like stuff on the TP (I know, GROSS but necessary). This means your body is preparing for ovulation or ovulating. It's important to have sex when you see that stuff. It kind of resembles semen after sex.

Anyway, gross, but if you google it or research it you'll find that it's very important and may help you conceive VERY quickly. It helped me conceive 3 out-of 4 times, like I said!

Thank you soooo much Jy Renee.
First, from what I had read I thought that it was a good sign that I got my period already. I have already cut out drinking, I don't smoke or do drugs. I started a prenantal vitamin the day I decided to quit the pill. I have cut back on caffeine and I am eating healthier. I have started exercising (walking on a treadmill), but I cannot exercise too much as I suffer from arthritis in my knee. I already definately would love to get pregnant right away but we are trying not to put too much pressure on us as we both know that it might not happen right away if at all.
Thanks for adding the part about miscarriages...its a little scary to think that the pill can cause miscarriages, but I also know many women who have had healthy babies after taking birth control.
As for any questions to ask you...it sounds silly but I dont know what questions to ask...so I guess if you think that I need to know something...or whatever....feel free to let me know...and dont worry about keeping it short
:)
Thanks so much

BDL, I'd love to help you. So be prepared, I have a lot of info and I'm going to make it as short and simple as possible.

-As others have said, it can take time to "regulate" after coming off the pill. It's amazing you got your period already.

-Going to the doctor is a GREAT idea in helping prepare yourself.

-Some ideas to prepare your body: no drinking/drugs/cigs, take a prenatal vitamin daily and a folic acid daily, try to drink nothing but water (one coffee or pop won't hurt you), and exercise.

-As for "charting" or checking for ovulation, even though you're not abstaining from getting pregnant, you will find that you WANT to get pregnant immediately the first time you take a pregnancy test and it says negative. It kind of fuels the fire, so to speak, so if you want more information on some ovulation things, let me know!

Just because you just got off of birth control doesn't mean you'll miscarry your first pregnancy, so do not fear. I know many women who got pregnant while on BC and had healthy babies.

Anyway, just ask if you want more info or have more questions because I love helping out the TTCers (trying to concieve).

Thank you all for your comments...
We are not really trying-we aren't mapping ovulation and stuff like that....we just decided to quit trying NOT to get pregnant...I guess its out of our hands now....what ever happens happens.
Really I am just trying to get all the info I can, so that when it does happen I am armed with knowledge.

I would say to wait a few months before ttc.  I was on the pill for years, then got off and got pregnant the next month.  I had a miscarriage 2 months later.  The dc put most of the blame on just being offf the pill.  It can increase your chances of miscarriage. This may not be the case for everyone but it was a very hard time.  Just a thought
