IUD

Hello,

Tomorrow I have an appointmentI'm having my IUD remove, I've had for 4 years and eight months and during that time I have not had my period. My question is if I can get pregnant after having the IUD removed? How long does it takes to get you period back to normal?

All women are different. I assume you have the Mirena. You might fall pregnant immediately, but for many women it takes months before it happens. There's a thread that you could look into of women TTC after their removal.

Since you've had the IUD for so long, your hormones will be very messed up at first...

Im surprised your doctor didnt advise you to use some other form of birth control until your periods even out.

This might not happen to everyone, BUT my friend had an IUD and she concieved right after taking it out, BUT she bled sporatically until about 25 wks. Its your choice. but I would personally wait for my periods/hormones to get adjusted.

I only had my mirena for 2.5 years, but I still menstruated.  I fell pregnant 2 months after having it out, but had a m/c.  I immediately got pregnant again the 3rd month (same month as m/c...so less than 2 weeks later) and am now 8.5 weeks pregnant.  Hope it happens for you quickly!  Oh and to put this in perspective.  Each of my other 3 kids took at least 4 months of trying so it was actually faster for me!

I had my Mirena IUD in for 17 months and it took me 7 cycles to get pregnant. It just depends on your body. The hardest part for me was that I kinda expected to get pregnant right away since a lot of people do and I was that person that got pregnant twice on bc. I think if you don't put unrealistic expectations on yourself and just try and relax and enjoy ttc you will be successful.

Best of luck to you!

BTW take some tylenol or something before you go so it doesn't hurt as much when they take it out. my dr said it was like ripping off a band-aid and it was not.
