Ultrasounds can be off in measurements
Pax1985~ My prayers are with you that your baby is healthy and is just a small baby. I've got a few stories to share with you. they are ALL happy stories, positive stories
I've got 3 younger brothers, and my mother told me that with all 4 of us we measured small on ultrasounds. We all had IUGR or Intra Uterine Growth Retardation.... or we had problems growing in the womb. She did have the Amniocentesis done with each of us. We were all born healthy however. I was a preemie born 6 weeks early. I've got a genetic skin disorder and required time in the NICU because of it but if I didn't have it I would've been fine. My youngest brother was a month premature and he was just fine and went home when my mother did. WE WERE ALL HEALTHY!
Both of my children measured small at different times. my younger son Mason was 2 weeks small on Ultrasound, and at one point my fundal heighth (when they measure your stomach with the measuring tape) was 6 weeks behind. 2 weeks later I had grown back to normal. I had an amnoscentesis with him and it came back fine. He was born healthy.
My first son however did measure about 3 weeks smaller too. I had an amniocentesis
done at 16 weeks to see if he had the genetic skin disorder I have. With each pregnancy I have a %50 of passing on the skin disorder. It's called EHK and it's rare, 1:300,000 if you were to have a baby with it. my risk is so high because I actually have it. my grandma was the original person in our family with it.
at 17 weeks, the friday after the amnio I called their office in the morning and asked 1 question.... "Do you screen for down syndrome"...They said yes they did. I don't know why I asked only that, probably because I knew somewhere deep in my heart.
That night the genetic counsellor called me and told me that my baby had Down Syndrome or Trisome 21. I was shocked because it wasn't in my family and my husband and I were 21 years old. It shouldn't have happened to us..... but it did. I was terrified, and scared and I cried and cried...Back then I didn't think it was true, but Now I can say it was the best thing that ever happened to me, and that I never knew I wanted a baby with Down Sydrome until I had one. Tyler James, or TJ will be 3 in august and he was born with DS and with the skin disorder. he was a preemie born at 35w5d.
It hasn't been easy by any means, but he is healthy now and growing up strong. If you have any questions feel free to message me. I don't think your baby will be born with any "syndromes" at all, and I think he or she will be healthy. BUT if that's a worry of your I want you to know that things like that can be positive experiences. Not as terrifying as doctors make it out to be. You can also jump onto the board Pregnancy 35+ and message the member named Dragon1973....
She's got a beautiful lil boy with DS also.

Cbarrs~ Can I ask why your at high risk for T18? If the only thing they found was the baby measuring small then the odds are definitely in your favor for the baby NOT having T18. usually they'll find multiple markers like overlapped digits, the baby's hands will be made into fists, other markers are heart defects, absent fetal stomach, too much fluid....and other stuff.. My prayers aer with you that the baby is HEALTHY
