Im ready to quit now I really need support!!!

ok ladies.. Some of you may remember that I posted a while back that I wanted to quit smoking but I just couldnt... Heres the thing that was 10 weeks ago and I havent. I am now 23 weeks pregnant and really really want to now but need the support of my online family.
When I was pregnant with my son I had no trouble quitting when I was 6 weeks pregnant but my ex husband wasnt a smoker and I had a miscarriage a month earlier. Now with this pregnancy my husband smokes and it makes it really hard to quit... I am having heart palps and feel like I cant breathe a lot. I have decided it is the time to quit for the baby and I... So what I am asking is how do you all think it will be the best way to go about it?

I can't really tell you precisely how, I can only tell you my story.  My first child was born small (4 lbs 15 oz but fullterm) and I had complications with that pregnancy.  Many of which I attributed to smoking. In 99 I had a miscarriage.  It was DH and I's first baby together.  A year later I got pregnant again.  I was determined to do everything I could to make sure that baby was healthy.  The day after I had my pregnancy confirmed I vowed to smoke the last cigarette in my pack and not have another one.  That was dec 27th of 2000.  It wasn't easy but I have not had a single cigarette since that morning.  I worked with many smokers and it was really hard to adjust to not taking the smoke breaks with them.  My mom also smoked.  Now, 10 years later I am truly glad that I quit.  I lost my Mom this past summer to a very aggressive form of Lung Cancer.  She was dead 3 weeks after her diagnosis.  Having quit smoking cold turkey after numerous failed attempts and having smoked upwards of 3 packs a day at times for 12 years is one of my proudest moments, aside from having my children.

Good luck and just keep reminding yourself of the reasons WHY you are quitting...perhaps you could convince your partnet that now would be a good time for him to quit as well.  2nd hand smoke is just as bad for baby!

Hi,  I used to be a smoker, about a pack a day for roughly 10 years.
I tried to quit a few times through out that time but never did, i tried they medication, the patches, the gum,  i tried everything but it didnt help.
Then just almost four years ago i started having a tooth aches and eventually they found a tumor/growth within my jaw bone.  It was removed and test - (benign)  the day of the surgery i couldnt smoke becuase i had an open incision in my mouth.  After that i thought "OK i did smoke yesterday, i wont smoke today" then again the next day and the next.   It wasnt the cancer scare that made me quit is was more like a cinuation of the first day.    It wasnt hard to do at all.  even though everyone around me was smoking.  Everytime i though about having a smoke i would get busy with something else.....   I can honestly say it is the best descision i have ever made.
I hope you are able to do the same,  I am not going to preach how bad smoking is becuase you already know.   But i would recommen going 'cold turkey' rather than the cut down,  It worked for me.

Best of luck!

I'm not a smoker so I have no advice, but I just wanted to say good luck and congratulations on wanting to quit! You're doing such a good thing for both you and your baby.

I am not a smoker and never really have been so I have no idea what it is like to crave a cigrarette, and I don't judge because I have no clue.

My sister on the other hand is a huge smoker.  She has two little ones and has quit during her pregnancies.  She would start off by cutting down until she was down to one cigarette day, then half ect.  She told me that her doctor would tell her not to quit cold turkey because your body withdrawling isn't good for the baby either.

But, I would for sure ask for help from your doctor.  Good luck =)

You are doing a great thing, and at least you WANT to stop, that's the hardest part. My mom quit smoking by keeping her mouth busy all day long, gum, candies, anything that would occupy her mouth, and she cut back one a day, then two, and farther in between each cigarette. Good luck!

With my first daughter i was a smoker. The day i found out i was pregnant i thought to myself "i can make the choice to smoke, but my baby cant" that was a desicion i needed to make for my child and i quit at that moment. My husband smoked for another 2 weeks but then he quit too. Would your husband consider quiting for you and the baby?

We took smoking back up in august and we noticed how sick our daughter was getting (we did not smoke around her) but she got all the passive smoke off our clothes ect. we both quit by October again and our daughter hasnt been sick since.

If you cant do it cold turkey, speak to your doctor and they may be able to give you some help that is safe during the pregnancy.

You have taken a big step already by admiting you want to quit, which is a great start.

Good luck and let us know how you go.
