Is it normal to have an abnormal sac and no heartbeat at 5w3d?

I'm a first time mom 5w3d and I'm very excited.  However I went to the Dr. today to get my check up and he said I had an abnormal  sac and my baby still doesn't have a heartbeat.  It's now Thur and I have to wait for my next check up on Wed.  I'm trying not to stress about it but it's constantly on my mind.  Does anyone have any answers?  What if my baby has a heartbeat but the sac is still abnormal?  I attached a photo from my ultrasound.  The Dr. also didn't explain much and was kind of short with me.  Wed is almost a week away and I need some advice.  Thanks...

It is normal for the heart not to beat quite yet but I had an abnormal sac at about 5w3d, I am now 6w4d and just had an ultrasound that showed everything looked normal, but there was still no heartbeat.  They aren't giving me much hope.  I had to be put on progesterone, have you had yours checked?

It's still early for a HB and honestly, I wish OB's wouldn't even do an u/s until at least 6wks maybe even 7wks! I'm not sure about the abnormal sac, but with that being said, I had an u/s done very early also (issues TTC) and he thought I was going to m/c or there was a vanishing twin in there b/c it looked like a pocket of blood in there and no HB/fetal pole. We waited another week and all was well and I'm due in the next few weeks. So try not to stress too much about it (I know, easier said than done...). I'm sure things will be fine. Good luck and let us know!

It's still kinda early for a heartbeat and I have no clue what the abnormal sac is. My sono pic at that time all I saw was a sac, not really a pole yet as far as I can remember. It wasn't til between my 6th and 7th wk that we saw what was the baby and heard a heartbeat. Hope all goes well for you

I really don't have any info on an abnormal sac, but I agree with the others. 5w3d is too early to see anything. Take care and try and stay positive.

I don't know if this helps, but when I went in for a spotting sometime between 5 and 6 weeks, the dr on call told me that I had an abnormal sac, and no yolk sac and no baby. I went in just 2 days later to my regular OB and she said the sac wasn't abnormal and we saw a yolk sac. One week later we saw a fetal pole with a heartbeat. Everything turned out to be fine. Wishing you the best of luck.

I don't know about the "abnormal" sac.  But it is likely that at 5 wks 3 days you will only see the gestational sac....no fetal pole or heartbeat.  It's too early.
