Is there still a baby?

Im 24 years old, just found out I was pregnant on the 11th of Jan,and I have mild endometriosis and a uterus thats tipped backwards.I went to the Doctor today, because Ive been cramping like Im having my period and lightly bleeding since the 8th of January. I found out on the 11th that I was pregnant, and the doc told me on the 17th that I am indeed pregnant and was just having a "shaky period" which is common in the 1st trimester.

The doc did a pelvic exam to make sure my cervix was closed (which it is), then ordered an ultra sound. The ultra sound didn't show anything, and the doc said that because  a gestational sac wasn't spotted ,and there was nothing in my fallopian tubes, but my ovary had the cystic sac where the egg was released( the corpus lutem of pregnancy), he thinks that I may have miscarried. I had a blood test done today to measure the level of hormones, and I go back for another test in 3 days.

My last period was on the 10th of December, and ended on/about the 16th. I know that by the Doctors calculations Im 6 weeks and 4 days, but am I just being naieve to hope that maybe Im not that far along, that the sac and baby aren't big enough to see, or even that the gestational sac could have been "hidden" because of the excess tissue created by my endometriosis?
