Hi,

I had a m/c at 5wk 5d the 16th Nov 2010, My levels didnt go until under 5 until the end of Jan, I bled until mid feb was heavy at first then lighter towards the end, I had a 'normal' period end of feb and havnt conceived since so unfortunatly this hasnt been true for me.
Everyones different!! Some women will conceive the same cycle some wont, I wouldnt say you was any 'more' fertile, When i asked my GP he said it wasnt true and that i only had to wait 1 cycle as i m/c naturally and it was a early pregnancy, I do believe that if you have a d&c your advised to wait 3months as they scrape the lining of your uterus so you should wait for it to build back up.

Sorry to hear about ur m/c, I know when i had mine my immidiate reaction was to want to feel pregnant again, Although we didnt wait and TTC straight away with no luck in a way im glad as i have got to grieve properly! Best of luck with which ever path you choose!

If you miscarry naturally they count the first day of your bleeding from your miscarriage as the first day of your cycle

I suppose whether you're really more fertile or not might depend partly on your hormone levels at the time you miscarried and how rapidly they drop. My understanding is that generally speaking you are considered more fertile for the next few months because your body had already begun preparing itself for a pregnancy, and if you've also been adopting good habits and taking your vitamins, you've helped create an especially inviting environment.

Most doctors recommend waiting three months before trying again so they can be sure you've gotten your period back and have had time to recover emotionally. It also helps them date your new pregnancy. Not everyone chooses to do this though.

As for when you get your period, I suspect it depends on how far along you were and how fast your hormone levels dropped. In my case, I did count my miscarriage last year as the start of a new period and ovulated a little over 2 weeks later, but my hormones were very, very low to begin with and that may not work for everybody; it could be a couple weeks for your cycle to go back to normal.

When I had a D&C I was advised by the Dr. to wait until I had had a normal cycle to start trying again. He said it was good for your body to have a normal cycle before getting pregnant again. The bleeding I had after the D&C was not considered a period, once I stopped bleeding it took about 2 weeks and I had a period that was a normal 4 days. I ended up having a short next cycle about 24 days and the cycle after that is when I got my BFP. It was hard to wait until I had that normal cycle but I think it was for the best and a good thing to let your body recover from what happened. I am Almost 26 weeks now and everything is going great. Good Luck!

I do want to er you to the side of caution though mine was a natural miscarriage you having a dnc you should wait 2 months before Ty again because of risk of infection.

The bleeding from a miscarriage is not your first period. Your first period will come after you start ovulating again. Every is different. I went through several miscarriages before I actually stayed pregnant, but I never had a problem conceiving after them.

Oh, and yes your HCG needs to be 5 or below before you ovulate again! With my MC, my HCG was really good then 2 days later when I MC'd they were 10! Then the next day were 1!! Also it depends on your body with the fertility of after birth, mc, or abortion! Like Nicole said, she wasn't fertile, whereas I was, it took me 3 months to get pregnant again, after my termination which was for medical reasons, and my period returned as normal 2 weeks later on the date I had it before I was pregnant, whereas after my MC I bled for 2 days, and got pregnant that week! Changes for everyone! It is possible, depending on your body.

Yes it is possible! I got pregnant 2 days after I had a miscarriage, (scan dates show it was 2 days after, but it definitely the same week) and my son is a year in exactly 4 weeks! Sooo yes it is possible. You're more fertile after a miscarriage, abortion and birth.

toy need to have the hcg level right down before you can ovulate again, it takes a wee while longer after a d&c I think for it to come down verses a natural miscarriage, but once its down enough yes you can ovulate, when you miscarry naturally you count the first day of bleeding as the first day of your cycle, not sure about d&c as when I had mine I didnt bleed at all and I know my cycle took longer to return after that, than when it did when I misacrried naturally

I wasn't more fertile, I was less fertile. I didn't  ovulate for six months after my m/c. So no, I dont believe its true.

I think it's most likely along the lines of your body and hormones are already "prepped" for a pregnancy and your cervix will most likely still be open. There is still debate on it, though. However, depending on the severity of the m/c your body may need a few weeks to heal, as well as mom and dad may need a few weeks to heal emotionally so it may or may not be in your best interest to wait a cycle.

It took me 5 months to conceive again after my miscarriage back in march and two months to get my period back. I didn't ovulate at all till my period returned. I ordered a bulk pack of opk strips an pre-seed off amazon so I could track when I ovulated since my periods were all messed up. They really helped a bunch :)

I've read in medical journals that the best time to conceive again is within six months after a miscarriage.

I'm not sure if it's an old wives tale or what. All you can do is keep your eye out for signs of being fertile again/ovulation. Like EWCM and such and hope for the best!

So am I fertile or should I just count it as day of period

Some people do believe that. I had an early one and was pregnant 3 months later. I would count day 1 of bleeding as day 1 of your cycle but it could take a bit for it to get back to normal.
