Just for the record....

I asked my lawyer about room shares because on my previous post about if my soon to be 3 year old and new born little girl should share a room immediately or I should wait till she sleeps threw the night, I received a lot of comments about how its illegal is several states. WRONG. According to him in family law there is not single one about children sharing rooms with each other or their parents. So rest on the thought. :-)

Sounds like those crazy laws that exists but doesn't get enforced. Like here in Mississippi, it's illegal to have sex in the missionary position. I would be a habitu offender lol. I can just picture a cop coming to arrest us. The stuff oit tax money pays, and the idiots we elect!

It's something (in my state) enforced by child protective services, housing programs, etc. I know first hand because my sister had the housing program issue, and my good friend is a social worker. I don't believe they try to enforce it unless they're trying to give you a hard time, if you're disrespectful to them they think of everything they can to get you into trouble. Like I said to the poster, she sounds like a good mom, and will have no issue with either of these.

And how exactly does this law get enforced? I've never heard of a cop coming in and checking how many people and what genders are in each room... if you in state housing they may have a problem but I've never heard of someone getting arrested or a ticket for such ridiculous things... and I'd like to see an officer of the law try and tell me something same thing with a baby in a crib.. who cares if its in the parents room what if there is a need for it u mean to tell me the police dictate what's right and wrong for my child? Bull**** I think a lot of these laws are rumors from a cousin of a friends best friends mothers sister in law and have no real substance... unless in state housing cases cuz they can control those things... unless we live back in Communist times. Last I checked I was in America...

The state where I live also will not allow a child over one to sleep in their crib in the parents room. Here they must have a room of their own.  Also here in Oregon you are not suppose to have more than 2 children(or persons) per room.

Yes, child services and state housing programs, also our head start checks into it, as well, my sister was using a state housing program and it wouldn't be approved unless she found a 3 br house, for her, her son and daughter, because her son was 7, and daughter 6. It's not something that is scouted out for, I'm sure!

My lawyer told me there is no law in the united states.... I dont know about MD or NY but maybe its something childservices looks down upon?? but not necesarily the law and if your not doing anything else wrong other than having tight living quarters I see no reason why they would be concerned.

The only time.it.is a prob is when the kids get older and they are opposite sex. At least in md it is.

Never heard of such a law. How could it be enforced anyway? That just sounds nuts to me. I shared a room with my sister from birth till I was 15 and she went off to college.

I think it's if BOTH children are over 5, in NY. I'm not sure about the law there, I'm not sure what they're worried about, two of opposite gender sharing rooms? Pretty ridiculous to me. I wouldn't worry about it, either way!

yea my 5 and almost 4 yro share a room but not until the 4 yro old was at least 1. Now my 9 month old is in our room she just has her own crib. and this new baby well, we are going to have to move unless we put her in the closet lol jk!!

I couldnt see why there would be either, kids share rooms all the time!! for me I would wait for abit though as your 3 yr old may climb into the ct with the new born, just until they're used to having a baby around and realise how little and gentle they have to be around them :)
