I agree with all of the above and also want to add remember at 6/7 months when they start crawling he will loose the "chubby" look as such and look in perspective. Sorry don't want to offend. I'm just thinking of my son he was breastfed till 4 months - went on formula - he was a real little chubby with a tipple chin. I only started cereal at 5 months -back then they felt 4 months was okay - but will suggest you wait till 6 months.
My son lost a lot of weight or just grew into perspective when he started moving around.
You are very lucky i wish both my kids could sleep through at 2 months - i don't even think i got that right at 12 months.
Good luck do what you feel is right - every little bub is different
Research shows that baby food before 6 months can causes a lot of allergies, I curtainly wouldn't risk it. I would call and talk to the doctor again, I would say how you dont appreciate how she handled the situation and that you weren't satisfied.
I would feed him when he was hungry and let him eat what he wants. Half of the weight he gains will be lost when he starts to crawl and walk. My son was a complete chunker at 3 months, wish I could add a picture to show you, but he was 17 pounds at 3 months old. I started him on cereal at 3 months, and baby food at 4 months and table food at about 9 months. I wouldn't have sat there and took the nurses c r a p. There are babies being born at 11 and 12 pounds and weighing in at 20 or so pounds by 2 months and they aren't obese.
This is why I don't use Pediatricians...I use my family doctor. People are so worried about kids being obese, but the more worried they make us parents and these kids, the more of an epidemic we will have of bolemics and anorexics.
I say do what you feel is right for your baby. ANd next time a nurse makes you feel like c r a p, make them feel like c r a p back. lol
I would never give a child baby food before the age of 6 months period, it isn't good for them. I could maybe see cereal before then but personally I don't think I would unless it was a very tiny bit in a bottle, but that is just me(but not before 4 months for sure). He seems fine to me though. I am always one that feeds a baby when they are hungry and if they want to eat 3 ounces or 8... that's what you give them. In my opinion you can't over feed a baby...
Don't worry--it doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong at all! If YOU think he is a little pudgy or too rolly (what baby could possibly be too rolly, though?:)), you could try cutting back an ounce at his feedings. But really, my son was downing 12 oz. and crying for more at 3 months. So I gave him cereal before 4 months even though it was recommended to me to wait until 4-6 months. We also put cereal in his nighttime bottle to help him sleep through the night, which he started doing around 6 weeks. The routine during the day is so helpful for that. Keep doing what you're doing and let your ped. know about that doctor.
I think he is fine! Jeremiah is 5 months old and is 22lbs. My doc doesn't see a problem at all. Every baby is different. He is breastfed and eats when he is hungry and from time to time I give him sweet potatoes. I tried cereal once, and boy was that a HUGE mistake. Someone kept telling me "he needs to eat cereal, you haven't given him anything yet?" and so on....so I broke down, gave him some and it messed him up big time! He wouldn't sleep at night, was super gassy and fussy, and was constipated for almost a week! then again for another 5 days. I was so upset I threw the cereal out and decided to not let anyone tell me what to do with my child. Sounds to me like you are doing a fine job! Keep it up and ultimately you know what is best for your baby. =)
Some of mine have needed baby food earlier than others. For example, my youngest just wasn't satisfied so I started her on 1st baby foods when she was about 4 months old and that helped her. Then after some time, my doc recommended feeding her baby foods with more protein. I did that and it helped her to feel full longer. It actually helped her with sleeping. She was just simply not satisfied and needed more. All babies are different so a lot of it is trial and error. What has worked for 1 of my kids may not have worked for the next and so on. ALL of my kids have been different with feedings and when I started what.
My old ped didn't start babies on baby food until 6 months. But my new ped does it much earlier. But as I said, all babies are different. Maybe one baby can wait longer than the next.
Keep doing what you are doing. Your little one is doing just fine and that doc doesn't sound like one I'd like to continue going to. I want a doc that is going to listen to me and not make me feel bad for a judgement call that I make as a mother. I want a doc that listens to me and my concerns. And I can say that after having 5, I learn something new with each baby that I have.
I fed my babies when they were hungry. And honestly your baby doesn't need cereal/baby food at all. We totally bypassed baby foods with our youngest and just started giving her table foods around 10 months old. Their digestive systems are so immature that the cereal and food could really upset their tummies, make them gassy, and keep y'all up at night.
Also, every baby is DIFFERENT. They are not a one-size-fits-all. If your baby eats 8 ounces, then he eats 8 ounces. What is one more ounce if it keeps him full and happy? He is not too big at all!
Don't feel bad. Sometimes doctors are far too judgemental. They don't see your day-to-day life. You know you're keeping him fed, cared for, bathed and happy so don't let it get to you!
Oh, and find a new pediatrician group.
I googled it and everything I've read says his weight is okay.. as a matter of fact a lot of what I have read says most 2 month old babies double their birthweight..which he has almost doubled it but not quite... it was just kind of offensive the way she kept talking to me.. she acted as if I was doing something really wrong. she made me feel so stupid...his schedule is good and like you said i dont want to not feed him as much as he's been wanting and cause him to be hungry or fussy..
I say to feed him when he is hungry. My babies have all been breastfed and always gained a ton of weight but never have I been told that they have gained too much. All docs are different and I would try the cereal. If he is sleeping through the night already, I wouldn't want to change anything!!! I have a 15 month old that still doesn't sleep through the night. I have 5 kids and sleeping through the night at 2 months is unheard of for me, so I think you are doing just fine. I would get online and Google this. Since mine have all been breastfed at that age, I can't say for sure what the "average" baby should be eating at that time as breastfed babies pretty much eat on demand. If you start cutting back, he may be fussy due to hunger as he is eating what he is used to.
If you do decide to cut back, I would def add some cereal. I had problems with doing that in a bottle (even with piercing the nipple), so I went to Wal-Mart and spent $5 on something called an infant feeder. It is kind of like a bottle but has a special nipple to allow food/cereal to go through. It is wonderful and much less messy when you start with the baby foods. No mess :)
