Knee pain early in second trimester

Hey everyone, I am pregnant with my third child (about 17 weeks) with this pregnancy it has been one thing after another. First of all I have headaches everyday, now for about the last 5 hours or so, I've had a constant throbbing pain in my knee cap on my left leg. There is a bruised colored knot on the left side but that isn't where the pain is. The pain is around the bottom of the knee cap itself. I've tried a heating pad, ice, tylenol, etc. Not helping. I did have this with my son but after seeing a dr. the pain went away. What is causing this and what can I do?? It's very painful. Thanks!

Hormonal changes during pregnancy also play a role in knee pain. Hormones are released to loosen up the pelvic ligaments and tendons in preparation for childbirth. But the hormones don’t just trigger looseness in the pelvic area — they can also cause other ligaments and tendons to loosen, including those around the knees, says Dr. Stuchin. “This can make things a little unstable.” As a result, the kneecap may not track exactly right, resulting in knee pain.

I am 20 weeks with twins. I just got out of the hospital after 6 hours of exams and ultrasound on my left knee and leg. I woke up in the morning not able to move my leg from the position that it was in all night. I couldn't straighten it or bend it...had terrible sharp pains all around my knee, especially underneath. My husband had to carry me to the car to go to the hospital because it was impossible to walk. Anyways they thought it could be blood clots which can happen during pregnancy right underneath.ur knee cap but thank god in my case that wasn't it. They diagnosed me with tendonitis, they said it is common during pregnancy, its the tendons swelling up cause everything to be tight and painful. Sometimes it goes away on its own or you will have to wait until after pregnancy to have.surgery. they prescribed me percocets which is a powerful pain reliever that i feel sick if i take and gave me crutches and sent ne home. Taking a very hot bath and moving my leg while under the water helped a lot even though it was painful. I am now walking on it and can bend it a little bit. Also a cause for pain around the knee could be a cist I forgot the name but good luck to you all.

I have also noticed this for about the past week or so and I just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant, so way earlier than you gals, but definately the same knee cap pain. When I have my knees bent for awhile they crack when I try to straiten them and then hurt for the rest of the day. If I wait a little and straighten them slowly they dont hurt as much but can still hurt for the rest of the day. Not hindering my sleep as of yet though.

I've had the same problem with my knees.  I'm 12 wks pregnant and both of my knees started to hurt last week.  It's very painful to walk, or go up and down stairs.  When my legs are bent, the inside of the knee aches and when I go to straighten them, they both crack and it's very painful under the knee cap, like a sharp pain.  The pain definitely keeps you up at night.  If anybody knows what this is, please let me know.

Im glad im not he only one im 16.5 weeks pregnant and like you ive had plenty of headaches along with nausea and sickness and now to top it off i started to get really bad pain in right knee cap.  I left it thinking id maybe just bruised it or something without noticing but the pain spread to my left knee cap a couple of days later.  I barely sleep at night as if i bend my knees in my sleep they become extremely painful and i wake up only to have to go through the agony of unstraightening them!!  I went to minor injuries clinic and GP and both are not sure why this is happening.  Ive been advised paracetamol and ice packs!! Sorry cant be more help I hope yours gets better soon.
