Labor HELP!

OK ladies today I went to my OB and he checked me for dialiation and they asked me the normal questions. I was telling them how I feel like I am going to pass out a lot and that I feel like my knees are giving out a lot! He mentioned that since I am 37 weeks he was going to send me to Maternal Fetal medicine next week and get an amnio to make sure the babies lungs are developed and if they are he is going to indce me!  Well he went to do the internal exam. He said I was about 1 cm dialiated and then he was wiggling his fingers around in there which was very painful.... Now it is five and a half hours later and I am cramping off and on and having a lower bachache.... is it possible while he was in there he stripped my membranes and the cramping is actually contractions? I am also having a lot of pressure and I just used the restroom and I lost some chunky white stuff tmi... Could this be early labor?

Also does any one know what it means when the doctor says the baby is "very postierer"?

I had my membranes swept with my last pregnancy and AFTERWARDS my doctor told me that's what she did.  I was like, umm...ok...  It was my first pregnancy so I was sort of clueless.  It hurt, too!  I sure wish she would have at least told me (better yet - asked) if that's what she was gonna do.  She did it a week or two before I was induced (at 40 weeks 4 days).  I'm sure my doctor was just trying to help out - but it seems like if that's supposed to be part of the labor process, or what my body is supposed to do, then it should have been up to me for her to do it or not.  She was a great doctor, and I do miss her now that we've moved, but she was known for inducing - she really liked to be in control of EVERYTHING I think!  

But, back to Linzola, I just read your newest post as well, and I hope you don't have to do the amnio either!  Try to rest and good luck to you!!

Again I never said docs are "bad" Michele. And yes docs and even midwives DO things without your knowledge OR consent. Do a little digging before the next time you desire to take a passive dig at me.

I agree w/ Clysta.  You can be crampy just from having a pelvic check.

Not all doctors are "bad" and will strip your membranes without your knowledge.  Geez...LOL!  It is perfectly normal and not at all uncommon that if you are already close, him doing a pelvic exam, could have gotten things started.  It is also totally normal protocol for him to be doing pelvic exams weekly at this point.  My doctor starts them at 36 weeks.  But you could also just be having some cramps from the exam itself.  I always do, but they don't last for too long.  So, that's what I would watch for.  If the cramps increase in length and intensity, I'd go ahead and give your doc a call.

I'm with Joy, rest for now and see if the cramping or contractions/back pain pick up at all. You sound so close!!! :)

If you're having a ton of discharge after a sweep it could be bloody show (you may not see blood yet but it could show up soon). It is not a reason to rush to the hospital. Remember this can take time and stay home as long as you feel comfortable because once you reach the hospital you're on their clock. Sounds like someone is going to be having a baby in the next couple days! Just a feeling I have.

Doctors will strip your membranes without permission, which is not legal but they do it anyway. They are supposed to ask your permission for any procedure, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant. I would assume since he was in there for several seconds longer than usual that he was doing this; most likely to keep you from having to do the amnio. However it's almost contradictory since the amnio was to check on baby's lung development. You sound like you're in early labor which can last hours or days. Many women go into labor within 24 hours after a membrane sweep. PLEASE try to get to sleep tonight in case tomorrow is the day. ;-)

Posterior means baby is face up. I had this and had back labour. (She was technically face up and tilted to the side a little) It was utter agony. This isn't always the case though. It could very well be labour, but watch it over the next few hours. If it gets more regular, or the pain gets more intense I would call your doctor or go in. It could very well stall out and you just be crampy from the check.

some times when they check you they can cause some discomfort when you are home. I would say if there is any bleeding then I would worry if not I would say this is just from being checked.  As for postierer I think that means the back of the baby's head is in the back of you pelvis it is not looking the right way. Harder to push out allot of pain.
