Low progesterone?

I had a miscarriage in March. I am finally pregnant again and only 4 weeks along. I already had labwork done to check my levels. My progesterone came back at 12.5. The doctor gave me a script to use progesterone until I'm 12 weeks. If the normal range is 11-15, why was I prescribed the meds?

Hey, the levels of progesterone in women varies alot, so the science is far from exact but generally the rule is, any level below 20 is worrying and generally not normal anythin above 20 is considered a good sign. This is from what I have read up on it anyways. Seems to be the same wherever I look. I also had the progesterone test done with my serum a couple of weeks ago and my progesterone level was 57 at 4 weeks 3 days, like I say the numbers vary widely, thats why doctors can't really tell you much for certain, but can try and help based upon what they think and the averages. I hope this was helpful a little. good luck to you with your pregnancy and all the best :)

Progesterone is usually given for extra progesterone support during the pregnancy, since your levels are in the normal range I dont think I would worry too much, your dr. probably gave it to you as a precaution since you had a m/c before.  I have had progesterone with all my pregnancies but my levels were always low except with this pregnancy but my RE still gave it to me anyway.(I am pg with #3)  I have also has 2 m/c. Are they going to test it again?  As long as it goes up it and not down your ok.  Good luck to you.
