Lung Maturity??

I will be 39 weeks on Thursday, and my Dr. wants to check for lung maturity so that they can induce me that day.  (this is due to my elevated TSH and free T4 - thyroid).   My question is:  Does anyone think that an aminocentesis at this late gestation ( full term) by all means is unneccessary?  I thought that most woman delivery full term babies between 38 to 40 weeks anyway?

I've seen them do the same thing in some of the baby shows i watch on like discovery health channel. If it makes you super nervous or uncomfortable then you can always decline that they do it. Just like when they offer them earlier on in the pregnancy.

I think I remember reading on a ladies post a few months back something similar. It could just be a policy your doctor has that lung maturity has to be checked before an induction is done.
