Listen to "Ashelen" she is correct!!! there is alot involved in giving a pregnant woman narcotics and is usually done as a last resort and the benifits outweight the risk but there are certian times that it should not be introduced or stopped during pregnancy. Only a OB can give you advice on this and if for some reason he did have you atke them for yourself I would never want you to beat yourself up over it. You did nto give us much to go on but on th eother hand if you wher taking them and can't quit I also urge you to talk wiht your OB and tell him just that and they will help you!

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't safe during pregnancy.

If the doctor prescribing it to the pregnant women thinks that the benefits outweigh the risks.

ONLY Under the advice and knowledge of her OB. it can be dangerous to take it without the OB's knowledge, (dangerous for the baby) and if it is an illegal source and the OB does not know about it, the baby may be taken from the woman at birth by Child Protective Services. However, if it's a prescription that the OB knows about and the woman takes it safely (as prescribed), there are steps that can be taken to ensure that the baby is born healthy and happy. If you are taking a prescription of it and your OB knows about it, then I would speak to him about your concerns, but yes for the most part and in most situations it is considered safe UNDER THE CARE OF A DOCTOR.

However, if you are taking it illegally or without the knowledge of your doctor, it can be dangerous and you need to immediately tell your OB because you don't want your baby taken away. If you are taking it illegally and come clean then your baby won't be taken away from you, they'll only take it away if you don't 'fess up and the baby is born with drugs in the amniotic fluid/urine (the drugs WILL appear at birth even if you haven't taken them for weeks or months prior to delivery).

Sorry for writing a novel to explain but I wanted to cover both answers. Either way, your doctor is the best person to talk about medication during pregnancy. All medication should be avoided if possible, but your OB can help you make safe decisions.
