My baby's Heart had a white spot!!

i went for my 19 week fetal anatamoy u/s, on February 22,2010. The dr said the face was normal, heart has 4 chambers and was normal, the head was normal, and the babys anatomy was normal. She told me that im having a girl!! i was soo happy, everything seemed perfect. Then she found a spot on my baby's heart. she said it could be a reflection/glare, or an echogenic focus which, She said was a soft marker for DS. She said my blood work was normal, and that the Echogenic was a new common finding. She said it just increases my chances of having a DS baby by 1%. I just turned 21, and i am really worried about the heart. I have another us on 3.19.10, and i pray that the spot is nothing serious, and that i have a normal healthy baby girl. Is this serious?

I am 22 years old and 30 weeks pregnant and my OB sent me to a maternal specialist today because they seen a glare on my daughters heart on the last two ultrasounds. When I went to the specialist he did an ultrasound and said everything looks okay and that I have no other signs of having a child with ds. He thinks the glare is just a thick muscle on the heart that have not thinned out yet. My OB and the specialist felt very optimistic about this. The specialist didnt want to tell me that he was a 100% sure but he said that he was 99.8 percent sure that my daughter will not have down symdrome and I have nothing to worry about. As a parent I am a little scared but I'm going to keep praying and I will pray for you too. They will be okay :)

I am not sure about the spot on the heart but during a routine u/s with my little girl we/they seen a white spot on her bowel. Its called econgenic bowel. I had so many u/s's after that. My blood work came back with increased odds for ds., along with the soft marker for downs. My baby girl was born 8/8/09 and she is absolulty PERFECT! Try not too worry, sometimes the spots go away. If you have no other risks for a ds baby I wouldnt worry too much. Also you can get an amnio if it will help ease your mind. Best of luck and congrats on your little girl!

Its hard to know if this is something that will be serious but it sounds like your doctor is cautiously optimistic which is a positive sign.  An increased risk of your baby having DS by 1% is very, very small.
