My poor babe, questions & concerned mom

I havent been on in forever because being a mommy keeps me busy!! My 9mos old son ran a fever of 102 thurs evening. So we called the doc & gave him Pediacare. Then by 11pm it went down to 99.5 so I put him down for the night. He slept the whole night, woke up fri morning with a 100, so I was a little concerned & monitered him throughout the day it went up & down up & down between 100 & 102, so they had me bring him in, they told me he most likely has a virus thats going around called rosea ( Spelling?) And that he probably will break out in a rash (never happened). The doctor said to try babies motrin. So, Saturday we gave him motrin & by Sunday his Fever broke, NOW, THIS MORNING......he woke up with a raspy cough & voice, the cough isn't very often. maybe once or twice within an hour to 2 hour span, but his nose is stuffy & runny, dry at times. So I called the doc to make sure I can give him motrin ( since I gave him Pediacare which is acetominophon about 4 hrs ago) Since it's been 4 hrs.....they want to give him a strep test.......im so nervous. What do they do to him? The person on the phone had me check his neck glands & I can only feel a little bump on the right side.... Im so mad because my babe had an eeg checkup & the office was filled with germs, especially a girl coughing non-stop without covering her mouth!!!!! Now I'm concerned for my baby!

Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen is the question, The pediacare didn't seem to do a thing for him?
He's 9mos & 21lbs,

What I read was Ibuprofen stops inflammation......and now that I said he wasn't really coughing, he seems to be coughing more......

We're going in tomorrow at 9:30am............

Whats better in your opinion & I'm scared once he's over this, he'll get sick again, it was such a relief when the fever broke.....and now this.

Now I have to disinfect everything since he is playing like his normal self!

for future reference, for a high fever it is ok (and often doctor recommended) to alternate motrin and tylenol every 4 hours.  (Motrin at noon, tylenol at four, motrin at eight, tylenol at twelve, etc)

Motrin is more effective for bringing down a high fever fast.  Tylenol is good for lower fevers.

One thing many people do that is a no-no (not saying YOu do, but just throwing this out there) is when a child has a fever they bundle them up to help "break" the fever.  BAD idea, it just raises the body temperature more.  Cold liquids, cool baths, popsicles, cold wash cloth to the forehead, strip down to the diaper...these are all great ways to help break a fever.

This info isn't necessarily for the OP but perhaps it will help someone else who reads it :)

I know this was awhile ago, thank you! The motrin did the trick and then the following week he was sick with a sore throat and cough, but he's all better now:) Thanks again!

I would give him Tylenol. 102 though a little high isn't super high for a baby. If it gets to be like 103-104 then I would take him to the hospital. Honestly it sounds like a cold to me. I would think its a flu but he isn't throwing up. Only thing you can really do is monitor him and make sure his fever doesn't go higher.
