NEWEST update on TJ!

I have news... good and bad. :)  today tj was found to have very acidic blood as well as HIGH potassium levels. they're not sure why yet but are looking at blood flow to his kidneys and possible side effects of a med he is on. They corrected the high potassium and he started eating today. So far just 2 feedings but he went from 1-5cc's before today to 20cc each time!! So maybe he just felt crappy?

we are happy he was eating tho.. if he can get to eating the right amounts by mouth then he can come home within a week hopefull! Maybe his being sick turned out to be a good thing?

i'm giving it 24 hrs before I get too happy. I want to be sure he's eating consistantly before I rejoice!

We are just praying he'll eat more. he is even moving his mouth for the bottle BEFORE feeding time. like 1/2hr early. I think if they could move his feeding time to every 1 1/2hrs that he'd eat his full amts. (1/2 at a time) which is 44cc's.

but they can't do that cause he is no longer on isolation and the nurse has several babies to care for other than him so no time.

Cindie.

Well. a little more news.: Theyre still trying to discover why TJ had  metabolic acidosis with the high potassium levels.
Turns out they caught it JUST in time. The head nurse said his levels were high enough to be fatal!

on the other hand this morning at 3am he ate his first FULL feeding by mouth in over a week! so YAY for that!!!!!  He's much more active still.. but they are really worried about the MA and must find a cause because it's one of those things that are relatively rare and can be easily missed, ESP. because the symptoms match those of D/S and a hole in the heart. (poor feeding, lethargy)
please keep us in your prayers! we want him HOME

Yay!  Things seem to just keep getting better!  We are so happy for you and TJ!  Potassium levels can really make a person feel really run down and sickly so I'm sure now that they've gotten that squared away he will be a much more active and happy baby!

Hugs!

Wow, you are BOTH doing incrediblywell. I am very happy for you and proud of you. This ( I am sure) has been such a range of emotions and I really admire your positivity.

I hope they get TJ's meds squared away and it sounds like his feeding is improving and that is soooo exciting! He is so handsome and I am so happy for you.

Looking forward to the next update, and I just know it will be even better news!

XO and ((HUGS!))
