Natural miscarriage leads to possible D&C

Has anyone had a natural miscarriage and then had to have a D&C since not all the tissue came out?  I am still bleeding for a natural miscarriage that started 3 weeks ago.  I'm nervous to get the D&C because of possible scarring (fertility problems).  Is there any harm in just letting my body naturally miscarry the rest of the tissue?  Is it possible that the tissue will never come out unless I get a D&C? I'm scared to get the D&C.

Hi.  My doc just called me today.  Said my HCG level is at 800.  He wants me to have an ultrasound done at the lab.  He said when he gets the results back, he'll see if there's enough in there to do a D&C...Or if not, I should just "wait it out".  I'll keep everyone posted!  I feel like I've waited this long (as far as having a natural miscarriage)...what's another few weeks?  Ahhhh!  This sucks!  And I do not wish this kind of thing on my worst enemy (even though I don't have any - hee hee.)  Thanks everyone!

i had a d/c 2 wks ago after a 7wk sac only preg. i strongly recommend it, the precedure took 20 mints, i came home tired but walking around 2hs later, next day i was out at the supermarket. the d/c cleans all up and it's easier to get pregnt. sorry about your loss.

Thanks for your response.  ...And thank you for making me feel better.  I see, one of the biggest issues on this forum is being impatient.  I just can't wait to put all of this behind me :(.

My doctor never put me on antibiotics...

hi, i had a misscarriage about 2 years ago and had to have a d&c to get the rest of the tissue out.  Its a threat of infections if it stays in too long, and like newafwife said, your levels will not go back down and there are other problems that come along with that.  Did your dr put yo on antibiotics?

The biggest threat there is in just letting your body do it is infection.  Your doctor should have put  you on some form of antibiotic.  Another problem is that if your body does not expel the rest, then your levels will not go back down, which means no ovulation - no pregnancy.  So I would do what the doctor says you should do.  I know a lot of people who have had D&C's done, and they all got pregnant in one or two cycles, but I guess everyone is different.
