New Job

I just got hired for a new job and start orientation on Tuesday the 2nd of September. I didn't tell them that I'm pregnant and ofcourse they didn't ask. When is a good time to tell them? I'm 19 weeks now , I got this job pretty quickly got hired on the spot. It's in the medical field, I'll be doing CNA stuff and running around a lot. Any suggestions????

If you do tell them. Say you just found out.. it happens. Lying isnt the best way to go but in the case of not looking bad for not telling then sooner..

No, you can't get fired for BEING pregnant. Unfortunately you CAN be fired for not being completely truthful about all conditions that could affect your work at some point during the application and interviewing process; this includes chronic illness, pregnancy and minor disabilities- things that are illegal to be fired for in and of themselves. When you refuse to disclose them or lie about them when given the opportunity to in an interview- and the opportunity is always given even if they don't directly ask "are you pregnant or sick?"- the little disclaimer about being completely truthful during  your interview and application they make you sign means they can absolutely fire you for it. It's always best to be honest up front.

The thing is we BOTH want a boy. And you know when you both want one thing it comes out to be the other lol but as long as my baby is healthy that's all that matters

Okay I'll tell them on Tuesday and I'm already showing. Just people don't come up and ask the question. Plus same day I got hired all I was thinking about was my appointment later that day. Found out we're having a baby boy :)

The one issue I can forsee now, by the way, is they - do- kind of have legal grounds to fire you for "lying during the application process," for example if they asked you if you had any conditions you knew of that could require accommodation in the future, etc. That's not terribly common for your situation, however. I just thought it was a good thing to point out in future reference.

I know I can. But they are saying it's because my attendance and I only missed two days for doctor appiontments. I know that was a lie. But yea you should tell them. I'm going to interviews and I'm telling them from now

I was a cna before i became a lvn, im now in my last year of nursing school ;) its great that u got hired. Once u have 90 days working you could get maternity leave so i wouldn't worry....but maybe u should mention it cause your obviously going to start showing. Good luck

You can get unemployment if they fired you for that!

And I would tell them in no less than a week.
So you're some what familiar with your new environment and the people around you

You should definitely tell them soon. Honestly, you probably should have mentioned it when they interviewed/hired you. The nursing home I worked/work for is fine with staff like CNAs being pregnant, but they also really like to know ASAP. It's kind of important for them to know.

Me to a month ago, but they said that wasn't the reason. Everyone knew that was their reason. It's discrimination, you can sue.
