Nose Bleed at 4-5 weeks?

Just found out I am pregnant this weekend :) Just got back from the doctor and I am waiting on my test results. Right before I turned into my driveway I wiped my nose and i had blood on my hand. Well I quickly grabbed a tissue but it lasted forever! I went through probably three tissues before it stopped. I have only had a nose bleed once in my life when I was younger because I was hit in the nose with a ball. I have never had one just randomly. Is this normal?

Yes, completely normal! during pregnancy your blood volume will nearly double, so easily irritated blood vessels (such as those in your nose, eyes, vagina, mouth, etc) will be engorged and more likely to rupture and cause minor bleeds. the only concern would be if the nose bleed is accompanied by a severe headache, or any other majors signs of a problem.

But yes..normal, although irritating! Just try to keep your nose moisturized (sometimes a humidifier can help through those dry winter months) and make sure you don't irritate the blood vessels if you don't have to!

Yes nose bleeds are very common in pregnancy because of the extra production of blood due to hormones...i had them all the time when i was pregnant with my son
