Not supposed to eat deli meat?!

So from the lists of stuff that we are not supposed to eat when pregnant i noticed deli meat, they say im supposed to warm it until steaming..but the thought of putting roast beef in the microwave and then eating it warm makes me nauseous, can i warm it and then re-refrigerate it to eat on a sandwich? I've been craving roast beef sandwich so bad for the last few days (my fave deli meat) so i was wondering if it still get rid of the bacteria if i warm it and then put it in the freezer to make a sandwich or do like the whole package then put it in the fridge. i want it sooo badddddd LOL

Actually a warm roast beef sandwich is really good! Most deli sandwiches taste fabulous heated up.

I ate deli when pregnant before I knew you were not supposed to eat it. Everything was fine but every now and then I made the judgment call to eat it or avoid it. Go for a veggie sandwich or a hot deli sandwich!

Actually is has to be warm when you eat it.  It getting cold again is what causes the bacteria to generate.  I have stayed away from it because like you warm lunch meat makes me want to hurl...lol.  But, I do cheat here & there and eat a cold turkey sandwich (maybe once a month).  Other than that I switched to eating veggie sandwiches, with cream cheese, tomato, thin cucumber, avacado, peppers, pickles, bell pepper.  =)

I am 35 weeks and so far so good...lol.  People have been having babies for a long time, my sister had one 5 years ago and this rule wasn't even invented yet.  I think you can eat a cold sandwich once in a great while and be fine.

my best friends ob told her that as long as she warmed it up to steaming hot it would get rid of the listeria bacteria but the thought of eating warm deli meat unless its toasted just sounds gross right now lol

they say not to have deli meat do to small risk of listeria. Ive been eating cheese subs instead to satisfy my craving. The risk is small, but would can cause major compliations.

I was the same as you when I heard about the deli meat and hot dogs and such. i have been craving a bologne sandwich for so long but I wont take the chance just because i cannot steam bologne myself. Same with cold cut trios from subway, i have been wanting one of them for so long too, it seems I want everything i cannot have!

Yes you can eat the deli meat cold. It's not like your eating the meat right from teh animal. The meat has been cooked and refridgerated, so to speak. It's safe to eat unless you have a preexsiting medical condition stating other wise. I have never heard of that before, deli meat being on the list of what not to eat. you will be fine and I say go for it. eat what you crave unless it's sushi cause that is not safe. You good luck and congrats on your pregnancy
