I copied and pasted it right from the fda site, figured it would be fairly accurate.
You can use the following methods of birth control while nursing:
Depo-provera
Mini-Pill
Mirena
Copper IUD
Three of those four are easily reversible. I will advise against using condoms alone, they are not terribly reliable. And nursing is not an effective form of birth control.
Talk with your doctor and find a reliable form of birth control. If you do not like the methods available, either don't have sex or be prepared to deal with the consequences.
By the way, I was on Mirena for over a year and loved it.
And shame on those who are giving inaccurate information about Plan B. Will you be there to see her through her pregnancy? Will you be raising her children, paying her bills, or helping her through the day to day ordeals of raising 2 children under 1 year of age? If not, please kindly stick to the facts of the medication.
Plan B works like other birth control pills to prevent pregnancy. Plan B acts primarily by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). It may prevent the union of sperm and egg (fertilization). If fertilization does occur, Plan B may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb (implantation). If a fertilized egg is implanted prior to taking Plan B, Plan B will not work.
The mini pill is very similar, a lower dose.
You can take a progesterone only "mini pill" It is called that b/c most bc has estrogen and progesterone, and this pill only has the progesterone. The estrogen in regular bc is what affects breast milk. I took it after my daughter was born, but you have to absolutely make sure you take it every day at the same time. It has a very slightly higher failure rate than regular pills.
I was also under the impression that plan b not only interrupts implantation, like iuds, but it will stop ovulation if you have not laid an egg yet, and if you haven't noticed any cm you most likely haven't o'd. I wish you lots of luck and congrats on the new baby!
Plan B isn't abortion like Mumita said it prevents implantation but then so does Mirena and the copper iud. That is like saying to those of us with those types of birth controls are willingly aborting our babies which isn't true at all. Abortion is knowing you are pregnant and getting rid of a fetus. Plan B is added prevention against getting pregnant but if the baby implants then it doesn't work. Poof. Nothing. I would know because I've gotten pregnant after taking the morning after pill.
as long as your ok with if you do get pregnant. sounds like your going by the...."chances" rather than the probability.
I can't cuz I'm BFing.
The only options I have is non hormonal like the mirana... and I read up on that thing and ended with a "H E L L to the NO NO NO."
lol
I think I'm pretty safe, I don't have the money for that plan b thing, so I'm gunna go to P.P. to see if they can give me one... but then again they charged me $25 for a stupid pregnancy test when I first got pregnant with Ivy, which was rediculous cuz I paid $10 for TWO TESTS from walmart!!!
So if they can't just give it to me, I'm probably not gunna bother cuz I have more things on my side of NOT getting pregnant right now, than things if I would.
1. Women only have a 20% chance of getting pregnant every month anyway.
2. My condom had spermicidal lube on the inside ASWELL as the outside.
3. I just stopped bleeding finally last week.
4. I don't think I'm gunna be ovulating any time soon.
5. I'm exclusively BFing and BFing women don't usually get pregnant as easily.
I'm just gunna keep looking on the bright side and try not to stress it.
But I will take a peek 6 weeks from now with an hpt. [[only because those stupid things couldn't detect my pregnancy with Ivy till I was like 7+ weeks along. lol
all plan B is is an extra dosage of birth control. therefore if birth control is not an "abortion" then plan B isn;t but i guess that is neither here nor there.
but as long as you take it within 72 hours, you should be ok. so maybe also do you plan on getting on a steady dose of birth control as well as condoms just in case?
oh girl... I understand your omfg moment .. I think you are fairly safe... Plan B is an option for you .. like some of the other ladies have said it is available at any pharmacy. but condoms have spermicide in them so I think you are safe.. but just to be on the safe side wait 22 days after the incident happened and test if its negative you are safe :o)
Riot~ it's messed up and this'll probably p*ss you off but when I first read this I laughed to myself... SIMPLY Because I went thru this at first but not the exact same thing.. I thought I might be preggo.
How easily did you get pregnant with IVY? and Have you had any periods since having her?
Sometimes BFing can postpone bleeding.... I've been told tho it's not 100 percent if your exclusively BFing at least 8 or more times per day then you should be fairly safe not to say it's perfect because I've read of women getting preggo.
Personally I don't think you have a big chance of getting preggo. My DR.'s told me I'm SUPER Fertile and need to be on 2 forms of BC after I had TJ, however on the Foam only (%20 fail rate average) it's been 4 months and we only waited 9 days after my Csection to BD.
Your in my prayers...
And I agree with joy.. (I think we feel the same way..) If it prevents a fertilized egg from implanting personally I don't agree with it. However... that wasn't what your question was about srry. :)
Riot- I don't think you have much to worry about, I don't think that you could get pregnant so soon after stopping the bleeding. But then again it could be so take the Plan B, you can take it up to 72 hours.
And Plan B is not an abortion method, its the same as the Mirena IUD or the Copper IUD, it prevents implantion. Implantation means pregnancy no implantation means nothing. So don't feel unnecessarily guilt tripped over it. That's unfair.
I don't have anything to say that hasn't been said BUT hang in there and hopefully you can work something out when Josh gets home...or he can leave work a bit early...maybe he can even stop by the pharmacy for you!
Did you call your local pharmacy to see if Plan B is available over the counter in your area? As far as I know, it was made available over the counter everywhere?
Good luck!
What I meant was that if I knew I was already pregnant, I couldn't get rid of it.
But if it's still in it's deviding cell stage, I'm okay with it.
I dunno where I'm at in my cycle because I bleed for almost 2 months from having my baby, and it's only been a week since I stopped.
I remember having alot of discharge when I was ovulating back before I got pregnant, and I don't remember having any discharge since I've stopped bleeding, and I hope and pray to GOD that I DON'T have any for the rest of the week because from what I heard, sperm can live inside you for a few days.

You said yourself you wouldn't have an abortion but Plan B would prevent a fertilized embryo from implanting. I guess I'm confused.
Anyway, Plan B doesn't always work and breastfeeding may or may not keep you from getting pregnant. Have you had EWCM in the past few days? Do you know where you are at in your cycle?
Plan B is available over the counter here (In MA) too.. I woud just go to the drugstore when Josh gets home! Don't fret! =)
Keep us posted!
Plan B is available at any Pharmacy! You go to them and ask for it, and you can get it!
But you have 72 hours to take plan B. I'd say go tomorrow and get it, or make him go get it today! Hehe
At Walgreens you can go and for 40 dollars you can get it. You have to go to the Pharmacy and ask for it. I am in Missouri though and that is the poilcy. Have you thought about going on the Mini Pill. It will help protect you from an unwanted pregnancy. Hope everything works out!
Plan B is available over the counter, at least in FL it is. You shouldn't need a prescription either, just go to the pharmacy and ask for it. I would call your local pharmacy to check and see for sure, but I am almost positive it is available over the counter everywhere.
If you go into your local clinic a doctor should be able to write you a script for Plan B- then you can go to the pharmacy and get it. I would try to call a- clinic first- see if you can get a prescription over the phone or call your regular doc....
