OT - Does LO want to sleep on tummy?

Cash's ENT and his Pediatric ENT have both suggested that I let him sleep on his tummy.  He is eleven weeks old tomorrow and it scares me to do it.  He has really loud breathing noises bc he has a "floppy airway" that collapses partially when he is relaxed.  The condition is called laryngomalacia.  During the day if he falls asleep on mommy or daddy he sleeps on our chest on his tummy and makes NO noise and sleeps wonderfully.  On his back (elevated or not) he doesn't rest well at night and doesn't hardly sleep at all during the day.  Last night I put him on his tummy and he slept 8 hours straight!  It was wonderful and he was in the best mood this morning!  I just don't know if I want to continue it.
Just wondering if anyone is letting or has let LO sleep on their tummy?
After you answer please post your opinion - I am very interested to see what everyone thinks.

My son has slept on his belly since 7 weeks.. He just sleeps WAY better.. I am so paranoid (well, was. he is almost 8 months old now) I had the monitor with a video screen so I could look at him. That helped. Good luck. My son has NO breathing issues, but if your PED says it ok, I wouldnt hesitate if your little one sleeps better and is more comfortable.

My first wouldn't sleep on his back, ever! It was a constant battle for him to go to sleep if we tried to put him on his back. Also, he would spit up and lot and end up choking on it, so that freaked me out. He probably started tummy sleeping around a couple of months old. Before that I would put him on his side. I was never scared about him sleeping on his tummy and he loved it so much more. My second son is 9 days old and I have only let him sleep on his tummy once or twice, but during the day when I could watch him constantly. But for the most part he loves sleeping on his side. If he's anything like my first, he will be on his tummy soon enough. But it's definitely up to you and what you are comfortable with.

I couldnt do the overnight thing, im too parinod:( But with my 3rd baby (now 12 months) he started rolling over somewhere around 3 months and I would wake up and check on him and he would be sleeping on his belly. I would flip him and go back to sleep only to get up an hour or two later and flip him again. This contined for about a week, I finally got tired of getting up 5 times a night just to roll him over that I just left him alone. Some babies are more comfortable on their tummys. So unless mine was rolling onto their tummys by themselves I couldnt put them there to sleep. But if you comfortable with it and he sleep good that way than.......its up to you:) Good luck!

I would suggest trying propping him on his side first.
That's what I did with my daughter when she was about 2-3 months old.
I wasn't comfortable with Ivy sleeping on her stomach unless I was awake and right by her.
Only because most babies that die of SIDS are tummy sleepers.
The safest way for a baby to sleep is on his back.
Once my daughter hit about 6+ months I started to allow her to sleep on her stomach only because she started rolling around in her sleep and there was nothing I could do to keep her on her back or side. lol.
She's 11 months old now, she gets a pillow and a blanket and she gets to pick one stuffed animal to take to bed with her. lol
I was given this thing that is a flat cloth, and it comes with 2 tube-like pillows and a square pillow with an indent in it for the baby's head.
They all have velcro on the bottoms of them and stick to the cloth so they don't move.
See if you can get ahold of one of those,
The tube-like pillows are just long enough to fit snuggly on eat side of the baby's torso but the arms and legs aren't being restricted.
If you need help finding what I'm talking about let me know and I'll see if I can get a name for that thing and a place you could purchase it at.
I used to atfirst with Ivy on her back, and after a while she didn't want to sleep on her back so I switched her to her side and used the tube pillows to keep her on her side and she slept like a ROCK!
I felt MUCH better for her to sleep comfortably on her side rather on her stomach.
