OT - PO'd about taxes!!!

I am so mad. My ex decided that he was going to sign off on my 3 year old Aspen and let my husband adopt her. He missed some of his child support payments last year, hasn't paid any of his back child support and although he is supposed to provide her with medical, dental and eye insurance he hasn't bothered to do it and he hasn't even seen her in 2 years. Its technically his year to file but he isn't allowed to file unless he has no arrears. I told him a couple months ago that as long as he paid me the money he owed me he could file her one his and I'd forget about the insurance. Well he never did so I went and filed her on my taxes. Well I got a call today saying that he filed with her on his taxes! I don't like to put all my eggs in a basket but I was counting on that money to get my car fixed and now I have to wait 2 months to get it since the IRS has to sort it all out now. Ugh! Why are ex's so retarded!!!!

Oh ok mine was efiled through hr block but still no call so maybe he knows better ive had all three kids on my own for a while and the last time he saw them was in janurary and hasnt helped for as much as a diaper so he has no right...thanks again :)

I tried to e-filed so they called me the next day. Even though you filed first he could still file. What will happen is he'll be notified that he can't e-file but has to mail them in. In a month or so you'll both receive a letter saying that the social was reported as being used twice and for whomever did it on accident to call them. If no one calls them they send another letter requesting proof of why you get to file for the child and then whomever they see as being in the wrong gets penalized. I guess its a long process. But even if he filed before you it wont stop you from being able to claim. Just because it goes through the mail it takes longer to get it back.

Hi im sorry to hear what happened....ummm I have a question for you how long after you filed did they call you?? Im asking because I have had a weird feeling that my ex would try to claim my kids on his taxes but I thought they would tell you right away? I just filed this past thurs

I have been there done that with my DH and his ex...we have custody and she has no right, but yet tried...I dont know what they think gives them the right...urghhhh so annoying...I have been hearing about alot of people this is happening to this year..I am not even started or ready to file my taxes lol

Oh ill get the money it will just be delayed. When I spoke to the office they said that because they are trying to stop people from doing that, that the punishment is up to 10,000 in fines and 10 years in jail because its tax fraud.

That is so annoying! He's totally in the wrong if he isn't abiding by the court's ruling and you should be getting the money.
