OT & TMI.. Lovely combo post, huh? ;)

Ok, so here goes.. I have ALWAYS had VERY irregular periods, and they are typically VERY heavy with clotting the first 3-4 days, then taper off for about 5-7 days. I am usually bleeding for 6-10 days, and often (3-4 times per year) this happens twice in one month.. I'm so lucky.. (rolls eyes). I have never been diagnosed with anything other than "hereditary excessive menstral syndrome(?) or something like that ( I actually have NO idea what they called it, I can't remember?).. Basically, many women in my family have this problem as well.. Anyway, this month I had horrible stomach pains. MUCH worse than the typical h e l l   I usually experience.. I usually get excessive gas and diarreah the day before my period, but this month, I had horrible diarreah (like HORRIBLE) for a full week before I actually started bleeding.. The cramps that came along with it were awful too. It felt almost identical to contractions.. It was very painful.. And I look pregnant I am so bloated this month.. RIDICULOUSLY bloated.. I am just wondering if any of you lovely ladies have/had similar cycles and what causes it. I haven't been to the OB in 2 years.. We have moved (across the country) and honestly I haven't even looked for a new doctor yet because I have been so busy. I leave for a trip tomorrow for 10 days, and when I get back, finding an OB and making an appointment is a priority, but in the meantime, I just figured I'd ask you all. I am sorry it is so off topic, and frankly kinda gross, but I know you ladies are a wealth of knowledge. Thanks!!

Laura

Most of the time cysts aren't anything to be concerned about so perhaps they weren't. Sometimes I find gynecology to be highly frustrating because women sometimes intuitively know something is wrong but gynos aren't schooled in "intuition" or trusting the woman's feelings. I really like the site ratemds and healthgrades for finding physicians in your area (in the specific area of Gynecology) with ratings from other patients.

Gotcha.. I was thinking the same.. And when I was pregnant for Jax, they found cysts, but said it was nothing to be concerned about.. In fact, I had a cyst rupture a few years ago and bled so heavily, I thought I was hemmoraghing..(spelled wrong, but I am in a hurry, sorry). Thanks for responding!! I will see an OB asap.

Hey Laura! I definitely would see a doctor about possible endometriosis or fibroids. I do not have a personal experience to share but endo was the first thing that comes to mind. Ironically a condition that causes uterine tissue to get backed up in your body causes heavy, clotty periods and irregularity and pain. I'd also have hormones checked on and a sonogram to see what they may find. But endometriosis is usually diagnosed via laproscopy because a sonogram cannot always detect it.
