OT: Weight Gain in A Newborn

Lexi is 7w old now and on Friday we took her to the ER for an allergic reaction to the soy formula. She had a rash and started projectile vomiting. She had been constipated since we switched her formula and then her stools turned almost black, although no blood was present. Anyways, at her last appt at 4w she weighed 8lbs 2.5oz. On friday she weighed 8lbs 8oz. I know the scales can be off it really concerns me that in 3w she's only gained 5.5oz. I was told anywhere from 20g to 1oz a day of weight gain was normal in an infant, not 4g of weight gain per day. I'm hoping to get an appt with her ped to discuss the Cow's Milk Protein allergy, but as of right now I'm scared. It just doesn't seem good at all to me that her weight gain is so low. I mean she's still in newborn diapers and just now grew into 0-3 months clothing. Please pray we can get an appt and that it all goes well with her.

I agree with Joy. If you think something's going on, for sure get it checked out. I'm going to PM you!

Sometimes mother's intuition is stronger than any medical information out there. Definitely let your concerns be known. Since she's been having trouble with the formula and then was vomiting it may just be because of those issues. Changing formula may make a world of difference! Just don't let anyone, even the doctor, tell you that your concerns are not justified.

Try not to worry. My oldest daughter was in newborn clothes until she was 3 months! Some babies are just tiny. But call your doctor tomorrow and ask them. If the hospital thought there was something weird about her weight I think they would have mentioned it though.
