Opiates & Pregnancy

I detoxed off of pain meds when I found out, I didn't tell my suboxone doctor that I was pregnant, I did some research, and called him and he said if he knew I was pregnant he would not of prescribed me those, he suggested methadone, and that i am not supposed to go through withdrawals because it could hurt my baby. I just found out on the 5th of April that I am 3 months! I found out I was prego a few weeks before. I dabbled again when i ran out of my methadone, I was taking 30mgs percs. I am scared to tell my obgyn because of child services! I am back on methadone and am hopin my dealer doesn't run out. I want to ween myself, so I don't go through major withdrawals, and am not planning on taking them through my whole pregnancy! Any information would help!

You need to go to your local rehab. They have programs designed for pregnant woman and will help you get through this. They see this all the time and it will not be like talking to your reg. OB or doctor. Call now

You should contact your OB. he won't want you to be going through withdrawals...that's absolutely ridiculous.

From what I've read about it...it should help control your withdrawal. It's supposed to minimize the effects and make it easy to quit....I don't know what to say, I don't know anything about how it feels to take it but I do know that it's SUPPOSED to make withdrawals unnoticeable. why did he say you should go to your dealer? that doesn't even make sense. I wonder if there's another OB who might handle this situation better....

I am very glad that you told your BF and he is very understanding =) BUT the more important conversation you need to have is with your doctor. They are there to help and not judge. Opiate detox can cause many problems with your baby and I am sure you would rather be on the safe for your baby =) I know it is a hard talk to have with your doctor but they will definitely be able to help =)

I am down to 20 mgs a day. 10 in the morning, and 10 at night.. I was on 40, sometimes even more.. So I have weened. Now that I told Josh, I feel more confident telling my OB... He promised not to tell his family, and my family is not going to know about this!!! I talked to him today on the phone, and he said he loved me, so I think we are going to be alright!!!!

I think you really need to consentrate on weening yourself off the pain meds. You posted this 2 weeks ago, what kind of progress have you made? I am concerned because well they're drugs that should NOT be in a babys blood stream, and it seems most of your concern is whether you are going to get caught or not. YOu really need to consentrate on what is best for your baby, and should really seek help.

Honey he's going to be hurt and feel betrayed at first, but you did the right thing. he absolutely deserves to know....and when he gets over the initial shock, he will be able to help you come through this. you need his support, and he needs your honesty. you made the first good step. Give him time....if you were in his shoes you would need a little time to adjust too. Give him a little credit as well...if he truly loves you, he'll come through for you.

He thinks I want them to get high, he doesnt know that I use them to not be sick!!!!!!! I just Pray to God that this doesn't ruin us, and that we can get through this, and that he loves me enough to come to support me and hope he can understand what i am going through!!!!! My head is pounding from crying so much!! I am hurting!!! I just wish he knew what i was going through!!!

This is my opinion and also fact from a report i had done for school. Yes they do drug test babys when they are born because it is routine. Most states do not have a law against drug use while pregnant. I highly disagree with not having it because of the childs sake. They can contact cps and report it, but it is upto the hospital. Some doctors even run your urine for drugs while you and under prenatal care. In my opinion you should tell your doctor about your problem for your childs safety. Also do some research on the laws where you live, i wish you the best.

So for sure they are going to test the baby after birth????? Even if they have no reason or no use to????? Why would they unless they had reason to believe???

Yes if they test the baby's amniotic fluid after birth, your usage of all three will most likely still show up. It's like a record and a sensitive enough test can read drug usage from any point during the pregnancy. I can't promise they won't call child services. But if they DO, most likely all they'll do is interview you and make sure you're ready to take your baby home after birth...NOT arrest you. They don't WANT to take a baby away from the mother unless you're terribly unfit, and from what you've been saying, you don't seem like the sort of druggie that they'll take a baby away from. They want to keep you with your baby, so remember that. They want to help you. You say you got suboxene prescribed by a doctor, I assume to treat your addiction? Even if you weren't being treated for pain, you are entitled to a prescription to manage your addiction even during pregnancy. You need to talk to your OB honestly about all of this...I know it's scary, and I can't promise things will go perfectly..but if they do, for whatever reason, suspect usage and discover that you've been hiding it I know that they'll be a lot more suspicious and a lot more reactive.

As for your fiance...I don't see how you can hide it from him. This goes beyond health and pregnancy, because hiding something like usage during pregnancy from the man you're going to marry could be absolutely destructive. I think he's the first person you should be honest and up front with. Remember that this is his child too and he deserves the truth. He can help you talk to your OB and be your advocate...but only if he knows the truth.

I know all of this is hard, I'm sorry if I'm acting like it will be easy I know it can't be, but I really think that you need to talk to your OB. this isn't about you getting in trouble, this is about your baby's health. You're a mommy now and your baby has to come first...and even if you get in trouble (I still think it's unlikely) you have to put baby's health FIRST. You do have a little bit of time before your next appointment to come to terms with it, but I really think you need to come clean, so to say. And detoxing on your own is very dangerous for the baby, do not do it. That's the main reason you need to come clean. you need to be getting the methadone prescription to deal with your addiction from an OB (so it's not laced like Joy said) and so the baby can be monitored accordingly with your dosage. This is NOT something you can or should do on your own. I'm sorry things are like this for you, but there's no changing it now and a few hard choices are ahead, but ones you need to make.

Good luck with whatever you choose...I hope the best for you and your baby.

I wasn't getting med treatment with pain meds, I was a recreational user. I got them off streets... I'm still a little freaked out about telling my ob... I need a couple weeks to figure this out. I have time before I go back. I wanted to tell him right away until I spoke to my sister, she said that her and my stepmom talked bout it, and they will call child services. My only thing is I cant let my fiance know!!! How do i do it without him finding out?

I am scared to tell my ob, cause I went to my first app on the 5th of april, and didn't tell him anything. So you guys are saying if I stop the 4th month, when the baby is born they can still tell that I was on methadone during the beginning of the pregnancy? and xanax before I knew I was pregnant? Roxys are 30mg percoset, without the tylenol.. rapid release.. R (rapid) Oxy, oxycodone... They can tell all of that?? They will def testt it when i give birth?????

the other ladies are right...if you don't tell your ob and they test baby once s/he is born things will be a LOT worse for you then.

you need to stop worrying about your feelings and worry about the safety of your baby. getting medication from a dealer is NOT a good idea at all. having prescription, from a doctor and going to a pharmacy is the only way you should be going. weaning yourself is also a bad idea. you may  not have that bad of withdrawals but the baby will. remember whatever goes into you...goes straight to that baby. so if you continue cutting back YOU may not feel the affects of withdrawal as bad but your baby will. it HAS to be monitored by doctors. the only one that will end up hurt in the end is the baby. even if you fear that the docs will call CPS this is something you must do. you can't detox on your own and self prescribe.

1). Get the Methadone through a prescription, not a dealer. They can lace things.
2). You cannot wean off of it. Baby will have to detox once born. So sad!
3). Being honest with your doctor and upfront NOW will hopefully prevent CPS from being involved.
