PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!

im 6 weeks pregnant, and was in the hospital last night bc my "morning" sickness was so bad I actually dehydrated myself. They used 3 iv bags and i FINALLY had some relief and was able to sleep. Most women with bad morning/noon/night sickness keep suggesting ginger/lemon/crackers etc. My problem is that I am unable to keep any food or liquid down! Nothing...i puke right up. The doctor suggested Promethegan (suppositories) to kill the nausia, but I ended having a bad reaction to it....my arms went numb, and my muscles stiff...not to mention the pain in my butt (literally) So the doc said to not take those ever again and suggested an anti nausia pill that cancer patients take! I previously had a m/c in Sept. so you can understand my refusal to take such drugs.

It seems i have run out of options and I feel like a bad pregnant woman for not being able to handle and control my body. Does anyone have similar stories?  Any advice? The only thing that helped was sleeping all day, but it seems unreasonable for me to do everyday. Is there something im missing? maybe some miracle remedy that wont give my kid a 3rd arm or something?

There are a good number of women in your shoes.  I was one of them. None of the "traditional" remedies worked for me. I couldnt even hold water, and I lost nearly 15 lbs before it was said and done.  Not to be discouraging, but mine stuck around until about 19 weeks.  Unfortunatly some women just arent helped by the remedies, and theres not much that you can do about it.  Now, do be sure to try everything mentioned above, but if it doesnt work be comforted that it will end.  And, despite my weight loss and complete lack of nutrition, my baby is just fine, and yours will be too.

I'm glad  you are feeling better.  You could always try the kid's vitamins.  My girls love the Princess gummies and I have heard of lots of women on here doing that.

Some things that I tried in addition to medicine was a peach/ginger tea.  It is made by The Republic of Tea.  It has good taste and the ginger helps.  You can drink it hot or cold.  You will have to look in one of the bigger stores for it though.  You won't find it at Walmart.  Look in one of the "bigger" grocery stores and you may not find it with the rest of the teas.  It may be in a specialty section.  It does help though.  Peppermint ice cream is also good.  It is light on the stomach and the peppermint helps settle your stomach some.  The calcium is also good for you and the baby.

I hope this helps some and I hope the medicine continues to help you also.  I really feel for you.  I know how miserable it is.

Update: I went to the OBGYN today and since i was about to kill a woman just because she was on her cell phone (they had a sign! no cell phones in the waiting room...her voice was driving me crazy...so loud!) and the fact i was about to pass out on the floor, they gave me yet another IV. but not just one...4 and even went home with one!

I was told i needed a continuous IV for the next 3 days, but i declined once they showed up bc i couldnt take it anymore....plus i was actually startng to feel better and i ate something today!

I did end up taking the "cancer" pill, after so many people told me it was ok. And you know what? I feel better. Not one vomit episode today (fingers crossed)

Did I do the right thing by listening to my body and stopping the IV? Or should I have just continued this **** for 3 more days? I was told to call in the morning, if i changed my mind, so it cant be that bad...I just hope i didnt insult my doctor. Also I stopped my prenatals bc he said to...so should i at least take folic acid vitamins?

Oh and BTW that is the cancer patient pill but many people i know have taken it with healthy babies born...It's better than being sick, it kills the nausea right off. It will be nice to not be sick anymore wouldn't it? They wouldn't give it to you if it was not safe anyways. Think about it.

One thing that helps settle stomachs like this is a flat soda. I am not sure if you have tried it yet or not, but if not, get a coke and shake it for a while and let it set out and then just sip on it with maybe some crushed ice. Hope that helps some :(

I am in the same boat.  Lost 11 pounds with my son and have lost 9 pounds in 5 weeks with this one.  I FEEL for you.  I have been to the ER so far after throwing up blood.  I also have had the IV treatment several times (really hard to find a vein when you are dehydrated).  So, I do take the generic form of Zofran - the drug you are talking about given to cancer patients.  It doesn't make me 100% better by any means.  A few days ago I threw up 6 times, yesterday only twice so it works better than other some days.  I suck on jolly ranchers, which seems to help.  I also drink caffine free regular coke that seems to help.  I know, not exactly good for me, but better than being thursty all day.  Water just makes the food come right back up.  I also have found that cheerios, hard boiled eggs and potatos are on my list of foods that work.  I also have a seaband (a wrist braclet) that helps with nasea, it takes some work to find the right position, but again - worth trying.  There are also morning sickness suckers that I've tried too - they don't seem to work as much.

I have tried eating in bed, resting after I eat, eating small meals, eating crackers all day long - none of these seem to help me.

I am 10W 2D and have been on the meds since 5 weeks.  I think it would be worth giving it a try.  It may work for you and give you some relief.  The last thing you need is more trips to the hospital.

It makes me feel a little better to think that the baby is doing just fine since I am so sick. With my son I felt better at 16 weeks so I am counting the days and hoping to feel better soon.  Good luck - and hang in there it will get better!

Did they mention Compazine?  My friend took it for 4 months (was hospitalized once due to dehydration as well) and it worked well for her......Made her VERY sleepy though...but she was still able to function (went to work and stuff).....If they didn't mention it, ask about it! She had a healthy 9lb. 4oz boy 3 weeks ago....And he only had 2 arms!  LOL!

Heh that last sentence was kind of funny.. But no you are not abnormal, and you definitely aren't a bad pregnant woman for not being able to control it. You just have to be strong. A friend of my mother's is having the same problem and has lost a lot of weight because of it.. So far she seems to be doing okay, but her's is just as severe..she has yet to find a solution to this, as well. you could try drinking milk, which you probably already have, and sprite is supposed to be good...
However, unfortunately i don't have any good advice for you. :( i hope you start feeling better.

Hey sweetie sorry to hear that and I thought I was miserable. I guess I should count my blessing I am going on 10wks and although no morning sickness I must eat every 2hour or I feel as if I'm going to pass out when I do feel nausea I find that a gingerale or a sprint does a world of difference.  Good luck b/c you have a while before your first trimester is over.
