One thing I want you to consider is that lying on your back(or semi-sitting) can reduce the size of your pelvic opening. I'm guessing that he examines you lying down. Also, women with epidurals are often forced to be on their backs during delivery because they can't move. Do your best to stay mobile during labor and if it looks like they are saying you can't deliver try squatting or get on all fours. Delivering these ways also reduces tears, provides better oxygen supply to baby, uses gravity....etc.
I wouldn't let your doc push you into a c-section unless it was an emergency or medical reason.
Some doctors offer c-sections for THEIR own convenience. If you have your heart on trying vaginal...then by all means let her know you are going to try it and if you have a hard time progressing or pushing...then a c-section is the way to go.
I was 120 lbs when I gave birth to my daughter. I'm 5 ft 2 in ans she was 9 lbs 5 oz. The docs told me id need a csection and I didn't.
With my first child i was told the same thing..i am 5 foot exactly and was 98 pounds. I was 4 days over due..induced...dialted to 9 and could not progress any further bc my sons head was wedged sideways. He weighed 7 pounds 15 oz. Now with this pregnancy i was scared the same thing would happen so the dr did a pelvic exam i guess u could say and said she sees no reason why i cant do it naturally this time. Dont worry too much. Also, i am terrified of needles so im sure u can imagine how scared i was to be cut open and sewn shut. It was not as bad as it sounds. Recovery is a little rough but if u have some family or friends who can help out for a wk or two u will do fine! :)
My son got stuck under my pelvic bone. I'm short stature with no hips. I can wear a size 14 in kids not pregnant, that is how small my hips are. Anywho, he got stuck and couldn't lodge out. My doctor did the vacuum, and got him right out. He was 7lbs, and the ultrasound estimated 8lbs. If I were you, I would tell her you want to attempt a vaginal delivery and just try. You never know how your body will react during labor! Good luck!
I ended up with a c-section, but only because my baby was in distress during labor, if that happens, then you'll know you did all you can and you'll move on. C-sections ARE scary, I'm not going to lie to you, but they're not as bad as everyone makes them out to be, mind you it is a major abdominal surgery, and it hurts, it's tolerable. I was recovered (almost fully, I couldn't lift, or overdo anything still) within a week and a half, because I didn't baby myself, I walked as much as I could, and made sure not to overdo it, I hope you get to deliver vaginally, prove um wrong!! :)
Thank you ladies :) that makes me feel a little better. I will deffinately talk to her next week even I see her. Csections just seem scary to me!
Ultrasound is not exact (if that's how they're guessing) and I know many women who have been told their baby would be 10+ pounds only to have to be 6 pounds. I would tell her you want to try vaginal, and if you want they could prep you in case a c-section is needed. Then it won't be hectic and rushing around.
Estimated is a BIG gamble, honestly, your baby could be 6lbs, for all they know! Imagine putting an adult in a pool and trying to weigh them, wouldn't work out very well! My son was supposed to be 6-7lbs, he was almost 9, my friends baby was supposed to be 8-9, she was 6 1/2, so don't worry about that at all! You'll never know til you're in labor, and unless the baby is in distress, don't let them talk you into it!
See thats what I was thinking, he is estimated to be 8lbs 8oz n I'm a big girl, but my dr doesnt think he will get through my pelvic bone? Idk it doesnt make sense to me... she said she will check again next week so I hope I hear different news.
You will be amazed what your body can do during labor hun, and don't let that set you thinking you can't. There are PLENTY of women that do, I have a friend that's 5 foot, tiny, and had a 10lb baby, it's possible!
