Period coming off birth control?

My girlfriend has been on birth control for over two years now, but last month her prescription ran out and she wasnt supposed to go to the doctor to get it refilled for a few weeks. So she had to go off of it. We are sexually active and even though we use a condom every time with the birth control, we decided not to have sex until she could get back on the pills. She went back to the doctor about a week ago (where they did a vaginal ultrasound and there was no sign of pregnancy) and got her prescription and the doctor told her that she should wait until she got her period again to start her pills, but she also said that she may miss her period.

Now, before the pills, my girlfriend was very irregular with her period and could not tell when it was coming (this was one of the big reasons she went on the pill). However, while on the pill she could tell the exact day her period would come. If she were still on the pill, she was supposed to get her period a few days ago, but she hasnt had it. I'm not really worried about her being pregnant (the only time that something could have happened would have been after she went to the doctor and it is a VERY SMALL CHANCE. We gave each other "oral sex" and she did me first. I do not remember ANYTHING even getting near my finger before i did her, but if it did, it would have rubbed off on my pants or her cloths before it could have gotten in her.) I just want to know if it is normal for her to miss or have her period late after coming off of her birth control?

Also, she has decided to go ahead and start taking them again, just so she can get her system regular. If she does this, will this force her to have a period when she gets to the end of her pill pack? Can she still have it before she gets to the end of a pack?

I'm just looking for some suggestions. Thanks!

thank you. My girlfriend isn't worried at all. She says that she is positive there wasn't anything on my hands. She told me not to worry either. It's been a little over two weeks since then and she hasnt shown any signs of pregnancy so I think i'm just over reacting.

thank you! I thought it was normal but i just wanted to make sure and get some opinions

Also, does anyone think that the chances are high that I could have gotten her pregnant from the way i mentioned above? If there was anything at all on my hand....which i dont think there was...it was a VERY SMALL amount. I mean is this probable? I know that it is always possible if sperm is present...but i mean really, are the chances that high?

hi, its normal for her to miss one or be late comeing off the pill. when your on the pill, the period your havings is just breakthough bleeding, not a real period. it would be fine for her to start anytime.     http://www.knowyourperiod.com/pill.htm
