So a week ago the doctor told me not to be around pets but I have two puppies.
Is safe for be to be around my pups? Has anyone ever had pets while pregnant?
Idk what to do... I don't want to get rid of them but I have been feeling a little uncomfortable lately, I find it a little hard to breath with the smell of them, also it causes me nausea
Help!!!

It's not a problem. Doctors are usually more concerned with cats than dogs. But basically, just make sure to keep your pets clean and have someone else clean up poop and you'll be fine. No need to get rid of them!

I was high risk from 25 weeks on and my doc never said anything about getting rid of my pets. And really the only risk with dogs is that they may jump on you but if they are trained that shouldn't be an issue. Cats you can't touch their litter due to toxoplasmosis.

Is there a reason he told you that? I have two dogs and it hasn't been an issue at all. Certain kinds of pets, like cats, can have toxoplasmosis in their fecal matter so the only thing ive heard is no cleaning out the litter box. Studies actually show that babies raised in houses with pets are less likely to have allergies and asthma!

I've always owned pets. With my son I had to get rid of the ferrets I had due to the smell and my husband deployed so he couldn't help take care of them. but I kept my 2 dogs and 2 cats. This pregnancy I have three dogs and one cat.

I've got 3 cats and a dog, I just don't clean poop now, that's my mans job. Toxoplasmosis, found in fecal matter is one of your biggest concerns. Just make sure you keep things clean, it will reduce smell.

why did your doctor recommend you not being around pets??

I have a cat & a dog at my fiancé's.. and I'm around 3 dogs at my house/parents' house. my fiancé takes care of the litter box at his house though, and that's the only thing I was warned about as far as pets.

if the smell is bothering you, is anyone able to help wash them for you? I also have asthma, and I'm allergic to cats & dogs (go figure), but I've been around them my whole life.. so they don't trigger me to use my inhaler..

I couldn't live without my fur babies!! lol
