Pink eye while pregnant anyone?

Hi Everyone,
Hope you all had a great holiday.  I unfortunatley, woke up yesterday morning to a very irritated eye.  Made an appointment with my doc (not OB) turns out I have the start of pink eye.  I am 9 weeks pregnant today.  They prescribed to me some antibiotic drops called Sulfacetaimide, and said it is safe because it's a catagory B medication.  They also mentioned that putting it in your eye most of it drips out anyway, so your body only absords a little.  I had a miscarriage before so everything little thing makes me paranoid.  I trust my doc, but took the drops last night and swear I can taste them in the back of my throat.  I know you all are not doctors, but  has anyone else ever had pink eye while pregnant and could this harm my developing baby?  Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks :)

I know this might be late but I'm 14 weeks pregnant and went to the doctor with pink eye this morning. He perscribed me the same drops and said they were safe as well!

I just read your postings, and it put me at ease. My wife, who is 10 weeks pregnant, just called to say she woke up with pinkeye. She's heading to the doctor and is scared about taking anything that can harm the fetus. I passed along to her the info written above and I think it put her at ease. The less stress for her, the better for her and the baby.

Just wanted to pass along that your postings were a big help.

Everything is going great so far.  Had an 8 week ultrasound on the 23rd everything was measured good, and I go back for a 10 week on the 6th as well.  I get to have a scan every two weeks until I am 12 weeks because of what happend to me before.  My doctors are great :)  I am a little concerned just because I am started to feel a little better with symptoms just trying to live one day at a time and stay positive.

I am very happy for you that things seem to be progressing in the right direction.  Spotting must be very scary.  But, that doesn't seem to mean anything.  That is the thing with pregnancy symtoms can mean nothing at all or something terrifying lots of grey area. I talk to a girl on here (Rossie) that is 13 weeks into her very healthly pregnancy that spotted the whole first 10 weeks I think.  I am really praying for you hope everything turns out perfect :)

It's great how fast that drug works! I had severe pink eye last spring (I was clutching my eye and moaning in pain within just a few hours) and felt better almost immediately after getting those drops.

My pregnancy still seems to be progressing so far as I can tell. My uterus feels like it moved up some so I assume it's still growing. I have been spotting very lightly off and on. My next ultrasound is on the 6th, so I'll find out then what's going on.

How is everything going with you so far? Other than the pink eye, of course. =)

Thanks Eirlis,
I wonder why they were going to give me a C then came back with this one saying it's a B?
Oh well it is what it is.  They also said they were not sure it is pink eye but gave me the drops in case.  My eye is looking a little better since I started taking them and it's only for 3 to 5 days and less of a dosage towards the end.
How are you doing with your pregnancy?  I know you had some complications are you in the clear now?

I did a quick google search and it sounds like that drug is class C, not B. However it does say that risk to the fetus is minimal.

I do know that pink eye can harm YOU and is highly contagious to everyone around you. If left untreated it can permanently damage your eye. So unless there is another option, the benefits probably do outweigh the risks.

Also, make sure you take it for the full amount of time -- if you stop early, you run the risk of creating a drug resistant infection which would then be much more difficult to treat...

Anyway, I'm sure it will be fine. I hope it clears up soon!
