I took diflucan a couple times with my first pregnancy but it was later in pregnancy. I got a yeast infection with my second pregnancy very early on. They didnt want me to talk diflucan that early. I am the same way as u. Nothing works but diflucan for me. so i know how u feel.
whatever the dosage recommendation is should be sufficient. just remember to keep them refrigerated once you open the bottle!
How many pills a day should i take....one?
First of all....i want to say thank you! honestly...is really good to know that there are sites likes this with caring people like you two....i'm going to get that probiotic pills at the pharmacy today....hope they work!!! Thanks again so much for the advise...me and my baby-to-be appreciate it!!
Oh, forgot to mention that my doc suggested the following:
1) cut down on sugar as sugar turns into yeast.
2) avoid taking baths (only showers) and not to wash the vagina with soap (only a wet cloth).
3) change underwear twice a day...to wear only cotton underwear. Avoid thongs.
My doc advised that Diflucan is not safe during any period in your pregnancy. Says that the creams are your best bet as they don't cross the placenta. I too have been strugging with a yeast infection caused by antibiotics. I have been using Canesten for 4 weeks now. It gives me relief. I just started taking Acidophillus (probiotic). Seems to be helping (infection not yet gone but am feeling much better). As jess said, probiotics restore the good bacteria so it's worth a try. It's not harmful to the baby. You can take it pill form which is Acidophillus or by eating ALOT of probiotic yogurt. Cheaper to take the pill.
Wish you all the best. It'll get better....just takes time.
hmmm... what form of terconazole did he write you? diflucan is fluconazole, another anti-fungal. so if the terconazole didn't work, i don't know if the fluconazole will. and they both are category C during pregnancy. it's safer to use anti-fungals in cream or suppository form as they would then not enter the blood stream and carry the potential to cross the placental barrier. But i don't know... I would ask my doc if he thinks the diflucan will work, given that the terconazole didn't.
Also, give it a few days to work out of your system before starting up something else... it may be that the anti-fungal *is* working and just hasn't finished yet (unless it's already been 3 - 5 days). Unless of course you're highly uncomfortable, then i'd say call him first thing in the morning, heh...
In the meantime and regardless, i'd start eating yogurt right away and look for a good probiotic supplement. Antibiotics were introduced in your system and killed off the good and bad bacteria that keeps yeast infections in check. Probiotics help your body restore the good bacteria so that your body can once again control the infection. Can circumvent the need for the antifungal in many cases :-)
I hope you find relief soon!!! Poor thing. Hang in there... let us know what your doc says, if he recommends or thinks its safe to take, etc.
