Poop help! TMI sorry!

From 36wks or so I had really loose bowel movements, and I was delighted as I was near shamed to death during my last delivery when I pooped on the floor! But in the last few days I've been really constipated, I'm now 39+4wks so I'm getting nervous that its going to happen again! Plus I'm worried that such a big "imminent labour" sign has gone. Is there anything we can safely take? I have IBS so I've always avoided anything that could leave me on the toilet for hours, but right now I think I'd rather that than be so completely undignified during labour!
PS, I'm in the UK so if you could give me generic names rather than brands that would be really helpful thanks :)

When I had my first baby, I actually asked for an ennema(sp?) because I too was constipated and didn't want to poop on the floor.  It helped me out, and also made it a bit easier afterward for me to have a bowel movement, as here in Canada they wont let you leave the hospital until you have one!!

Good luck to you!

My partner has already had a great time telling folk how I thought my waters had gone a few weeks ago "but she only peed herself"!! (I didnt) He will never let me forget if I poop on the floor!

gosh I really wouldnt worry about it, I know it can be abit embarrasing but they have seen it all before!! it just gets scooped up with everything else, I usually find that I go just before I go into labour or during those first couple of early contractions, with my last  I had a water birth and when I got out there were a couple of small floaties bobbing around lol  :)
