Pot during pregnancy

Ive been smoking pot for almost four years and have been smoking throughout my pregnancy (just started second trimester). It has helped me keep down food and I haven't gotten any morning sickness or headaches.  I'm worried though about what the doctors will do.  I'm already going to an obgyn and they take urine every visit but nobody has mentioned my usage to me and they know that I have a history of other drugs but I havent used in two years. Can the doctors do anything about the pot?

Marijuana is illegal in most areas of the US, and in most areas where it is legal, it requires a prescription - if you are in one of those areas, please consult your physician. We aren't able to host discussions that advocate illegal activity or using prescription drugs without the advice of a physician, so this thread will be closed.

Its not so much just the risks of effects on the baby its what it does to the baby while your carrying it. Every time you take a hit you pretty much suffocate the baby.  You breathe for your baby through the placenta smoking anything constricts your blood vessels and the babies.  Its something to think about.  I smoked cigs at the beginning  and once I found out what smoking did i stopped.  Be careful drs ppl friends family all can call cps without yOu knowing.  Just take caution.

The only CA law I could find on point states

(civil child welfare statute): 11165.13. For purposes of this article, a positive toxicology screen at the time of the delivery of infant is not in and of itself a sufficient basis for reporting child abuse or neglect. However, any indication of maternal substance abuse shall lead to an assessment of the mother and child pursuant.

Section 123605 of the Health and Safety Code. If other factors are present that indicate risk to a child, then a report shall be made. However, a report based on risk to a child which relates solely to the inability of the parent to provide the child with regular care due to the parent's substance abuse shall be made only to a county welfare or probation department, and not to a law enforcement agency.

^^ yup they won't just take the baby but they'll take all of your kids if they are under 18, that's crazy.

I live in texas & the dr will report you to cps & not tell you. A family member of mine had cps showed up after she gave birth to her daughter & both her kids were taken from her & given to another family member.

Yeah this lady I know when I used to live in Michigan, she was preg w. Twins and smoked weed & cigs her whole pregnancy !!!, smh when the babies were born they involved cps , they said if her urine came back dirty they were taking ALL HER KIDS even the baby twins she had a 3-4yr old & @ 14 yr old. True story.. Also the twins were preemies & she wasn't visiting then in the hospital . She just was setting her self up. I'm against smoking period. But I do know some ppl , who smoked threw there pregnancies. I don't think its right. I would feel guilty high as a kite w. A bby in my stomach .

My friend quit smoking when she was 7 months when they tested her baby's umbilical cord blood  it was in her system and they reported her to cps...they never took her baby but she had to take drug tests for a few months and cps was involved for a while I guess every state is different

Pretty much your options are just like the other ladies ststef either you can contuine to smoke and risk losing your child or quit smoking for the rest of your pregnancy

I have been smoking since I was 13. I'm now 23 years old and weeks along. But I was also reluctant at first to continue my decade long habit.

About a month ago I got super ill w/ morning sickness. Because weed has always helped me w/ nausea I began to research it's effects on pregnancy. I found no research indicating that there is even a correlation between marijuana smoking and prenatal complications.

In the end I figured it was better to have a small pipe to ease the nausea rather then harshly purging and dry heaving most of the day (heavy purging even caused my cervical hemorrhage a few weeks ago). But the babies perfectly fine now XD

Not myself but someone else smoked thru their entire pregnancy and when the baby was born they tested the umbilical cord and it stays in there from 16 weeks on. I don't know how true that is. But caps came and now they get tested constantly and if they fail even once they take the baby.
This is in ohio.

I am smoking also (bad hyperemesis Graviderum morning sickness and headaches - I lost 27lbs) and am 17weeks6days. I live in Cali, I was honest with my doc and said I'm smoking (no prescriptions for it and can't keep edibles down) to keep food down. She just said she'd prefer I didn't. Didn't really demand I stop, barely batted an eyelash. She also said although they'd done tests for just about everything else, they wouldn't have known except for my honesty. She has also not threatened to "take my baby" after birth, like I hear rumors of from time to time. So far, I'm healthy, my babys healthy, and my doctors awesome.

No, I smoked up until 7 months. My doctor said that the only thing that will happen is if the baby is born and tests positive for thc department of children and families will be involved. But they won't say anything to you @ your obgyn office

I heard they can report you to CPS, but I don't know how often that happens.  All the scientific research on pot during pregnancy has shown zero side effects, so the concern is more legal than medical.  There was a study done in Jamaica 30+ years ago on pot use during pregnancy, and even women who smoked up to 70 Jamaica spliffs per week (!) showed no adverse effects.  There is a speech on it by the researcher on YouTube, if you're interested.
