Preeclampsia?

Does having elevated blood pressure mean that you're destined to get preeclampsia?
My ob that I had, currently trying to get a new one, was rude and never let me ask questions. My blood pressure is all over the place. I tried looking it up and I can't find anything.
I'm completely worried about it. Anyone have any experience that can help me ease my mind?
First pregnancy, 17 weeks.

My blood pressure at the highest is 140/86 about. Normally at home, runs 123/76. My doctor is still on top of it. I check my blood pressure daily. I also have server anxiety, and completely terrified of preeclampsia. I know the doctor will do everything to make everything go as smooth as possible.. But still, hard to not worry.

I'm 30w 4d in the hospital now for gestational hypertension. Pre-eclampsia is one concern for high BP... the Dr will give you test to look for elevated protein levels... also with hypertension need to be concerned with placental abruption... which @ 17 weeks is a late stage miscarriage.  Not tring to scare you but give you info... you Dr will prescribe medication to control BP to prevent this also you are considered high risk so you will have appointments every week, with ultrasounds because high BP can make baby too small, maybe bed rest too if mets are lone can't control BP

I should also say my blood pressure was fine until 28 weeks...but I was also working full time and on my feet constantly...after my doctor took me off work my blood pressure came down significantly.

I was preeclamptic with my first. I have hypertension already so yes it's more common but it definitely doesn't mean you're destined for it. Try not to stress! That can only make it worse!

I have had rapid weight gain. Which, I think is is a mixture of everything. My sister passed in March, eight weeks later. I lost my mom.
Then, once I found out I was pregnant I quit smoking cold turkey.
It all adding up, I have gained a lot. But, I don't know if its from everything happening. Or if it's something worse.
I just am trying to keep calm. Isn't easy.

Not necessarily.  But they will want to keep a close eye on your BP and will need to make sure there is no protein in your urine. Also watch for rapid weight gain or swelling (edema) in you face. Good luck. I hope everything goes well.
