I was just wondering when was about the average time for women to start gaining weight with pregnancy. And how much. I am in week 5 of pregnancy and wanted to know how much weight was normal to gain in pregnancy this early. I would really apreciate some answers.

You are all very lucky! I've had 1 mc and 2 full term live wonderful babies (that are now almost teens!) and with all my pregnancies (including this one) I've put on a ton of weight. It has something to do with bed rest, hypertension, sugars and proteins lol. I'm not a big eater ever and I usually crave.........salads........of all things lmao! I was hoping this time around I'd get to be a skinny minny but NOPE already in maternity pants at just under 6 weeks! good luck to yall!

Starting your 2nd trimester the average gain weight "should be" of one pound per week.

I only starting gaining weight around four months. I read you dont need to start eating extra calories till the second trimester but just remember every persons body is different and needs different things during pregnancy.

sounds like you're fine to me, tiffiepooh! Like I said don't focus on weight gain unless you feel like you're gaining TOO fast (which you're obviously not) because the baby will take what s/he needs so unless you get to the OB and they say "OMG you're too tiny you have to gain weight or your baby won't be healthy" don't worry about it, lol. It'll come, trust me!

here is what babycenter.com says ill just copy and paste:
"If your pre-pregnancy weight was in the healthy range for your height (a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9), you should gain between 25 and 35 pounds, gaining 1 to 5 pounds in the first trimester and about 1 pound per week for the rest of your pregnancy for the optimal growth of your baby.

If you were underweight for your height at conception (a BMI below 18.5), you should gain 28 to 40 pounds.

If you were overweight for your height (a BMI of 25 to 29.9), you should gain 15 to 25 pounds. If you were obese (a BMI of 30 or higher), you should gain between 11 and 20 pounds."

the "recommended weight gain for the first trimester is 5-7 pounds, but if you don't gain that much it is fine too since a lot of pregnant women have trouble keeping food down or even wanting to eat. if you gain a little mor ethan that just watch what type of food you are eatting don't limit your self just eat healthy and you should be fine! Good luck!

You are supposed to gain 25-35 pounds during your whole pregnancy... I wouldn't get too discouraged about gaining weight early on and usually it will all even out.

My normal weight is 156lbs however when I went to the Dr to get the confirmation on positive pregnancy I was only 150lbs. I had my 9wks appointment last week and I was 155.5lbs so I have gained 5.5lbs in 9wks. I have noticed that my pants are tight and a few pairs I can't button. I think thats mainly due to the bloating though.

I have been eatting a lot more than I normally do I'm surprised I haven't gained more weight then I have.

I try and eat fruits and veggies for snacks and small meals through out the day.

I agree that at 5wks you wouldn't have gained any significant "baby" weight, but it's entirely possible to start gaining weight this early, but at this point any weight would be you and not the baby...my one caution would be that the two people I know who gained any significant weight in the first trimester both gained over 60lbs with their pregnancies...usually weight gain that starts too early doesn't slow down, and the only thing you can do is exercise more (walking at least twice a day) stretching, doing things like yoga, and making healthy food choices. if you're hungry grab a pack of carrots...

I can't tell you what's too much for the first trimester because I lost 20lbs during the first trimester with DD and 16 with this one....I gained 18lbs with my daughter during the 2nd and 3rd trimester and it was all baby weight (apparently my body creates giant mutant placentas...long story) so I lost it immediately. With this one I'm going to have to be more careful to make healthy choices because I gained weight before I got pregnant..

truthfully if you're overweight you only need to gain about 15lbs TOTAL, 20-30 if you're normal, and about 35 if you're underweight (on average) so I would focus on eating healthy (but eating enough to feel full is important!) and exercising and don't focus on the weight gain, unless you start to gain too fast which puts you at risk for gestational diabetes.

the most important pregnancy weight rule is that you should NOT "eat for two" you should eat for a very healthy one, and your baby will take what it needs from you...this is important for women of any weight to remember :).

at 15 weeks the baby water and placenta is barely even a lb so you should not have gained now yet. Lots of woman loos in the first trimester because of being sick. But they say no more then 2lbs if you are normal weight. Then towrds the end of the second trimester you should start gaining like 1/2 lb a week and lots of times you don't gain much near thend and can loose and the baby gain.

Just eat right and if you feel like you need more food eat free foods like fruits and veggies and six small meals a day.

I am over weight and have gained like 4lbs so far. But really it is more like 2lbs as I lost the day after I went to the dr and think the other two were water weight from driving 5 hours that day right beofre my visit.

Look at what to expect when your expecting web site and it has a break down.
