Pregnant with an IUD

Hi everyone! I had my first child by c-section in December 2010. I chose the 10 year Paraguard IUD as my form of birth control and had it placed in Jan 2011. My Dr. Placed the IUD in my cervix and not the uterus where it was suppose to be. As of now I am 13 weeks 6 days pregnant. It was decided the safest way to help avoid miscarriage is to leave the IUD in until the baby is born. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, were there any complications I should look out for?

I'm not sure if this would be a malpractice or a negligence case. I guess I'll have to do some research but she did agree to do a tubal like I want.

The IUD is still in and I had terminated my health insurance in August since it was time for my renewal and my fiancée and I are getting married November 18th. He's going to add me on his policy and this very unexpected pregnancy came up in September thankfully I was able to get state aid health insurance to cover me till my fiancée insurance kicks in.

My doctors office told me the approximate csection date at my first appintment.  I would take it as being thorough and making sure he's not overbooked thar day.

So, is the iud still in? I would be filing a malpractice case because of wrongful placement or at least see about getting pregnancy care pro bono.

Okay here's a little update. I am 15 weeks today and when I went to my appointment my doctor notified me that she had set the c-section date for April 30th. That is at my 39 week mark and I thought she'd at least discuss this with me before scheduling. I also thought that this was a bit soon to worry about it. Anyone else already have their date scheduled this early? Is that normal?

Wow! Sorry to hear your troubles. I have never heard that a clinic wont see you bc of that! I had mine placed with a.different doctor than the one removed it. I wouldnt worry about the IUD unless the pain is just unbareable... Head to the hospital and see if they can help you out, since no one else will. Bc it is placed in your cervix there is a chance that removing it will cause you cervix to dialite and go into preterm labor. Which would cause the cramps, bleeding, etc the doctor was talking about.

I am also 11 weeks pregnant with paragaurd IUD.  They can't remove money because it flipped upside down.  I had it placed more than 4 years ago and my yearly check up was 3 days prior to me getting pregnant.  I also have lots of cramping and some spotting which Dr said will probably last for length of pregnancy.  Message me if you want to keep in touch.

I tried scheduling an appointment with a different clinic but everyone keeps saying they can't see me until I get the IUD removed from the clinic/doctor that put it in. Maybe it's a concern that they'll be held responsible if something were to happen? Luckily since the IUD is in my cervix it is no where near the baby so baby won't come into contact with it but she said it's placed where removing it could cause cramps, bleeding and irritation to the uterus resulting in miscarriage. She also waited until my second trimester to give me the options and now miscarriage will be harder on me if we were to remove the IUD. I'm worried about everything and the IUD has been causing a lot of cramping but thankfully no bleeding. My Doctor is making all my decisions hard and I'm not sure what to do.

When I went to my OB to be checked she told me the only way that the IUD should stay in me is if it is up high in my uterus. Which it wasnt so they did an ultrasound to find the position and removed it. I would have a second opinion for sure. Just a heads up my friend had hers left in there and it left an imprint of it on her sons arm for life.

Yes yes and yes... I had my twins in May2009 by c-section and had the same IUD placed, in my uterus though. I had it for a year and a half and found out I was preggo in March of this year. To answer your question, if your IUD is only on your cervix I would personally asked to have it.taken out!

No I haven't heard of leaving it in but heard of getting pg with an iud because of improper placement.  That's what happened to my mom and that's how I got here.  Good luck and hope all goes well for u.
