Preterm Labor

In light of the recent loss suffered by one of our members, I've posted a health page about preterm labor.

Though premature labor often has no easily recognizable signs or symptoms, my hope is that by reading about it, someone may possibly be spared the pain and loss that someitimes accompanies premature birth.

Thanks,

Peek

So with me, I don't have time to get to the hospital.  Mine are too quick!  But when your water breaks, you call your doc office and tell them, you will know if you feel like you can make it by car, by how intense the contractions are!  They will ask you this on the phone too!  If you don't think you can, CALL 911!!!  They are trained to deliver babies as well, so if it comes faster like mine, this is the best option!

And Especially if you get caught in the snow!!!

For me, this time around if they don't catch me dialating early, my DH will be delivering at home!  We are going through special training for this, and we do have books that tell you how!    For me, this is how mine have gone...

My daughter, which they say your first is your longest!  Was born in 36 minutes!  That's when my water broke, to me knowing i'm in labor due to contractions!  I called 911, firhouse wqas 30 seconds from my house and barely made it to the hospital!  I got in the room and her head was through!

My son,  came in 20 minutes!  Luckily that time, I was in the hospital due to being dialated 10 cm already and was in the cafeteria, water broke, and got up the elevator to the maternity floor and had my son in the lobby!

This one they expect me to go in 10 mins or less.  So we're being extra prepared!

But if your water breaks, and your contractions are say 5 or 6 minutes apart, you've got i'd say a minimum of 3 to 4 hours.  If their 3 minutes long and 30 secs apart like mine were, you have no time and need an ambulance!  I hope that helps some.

If your water breaks they like to deliver the baby within 18 hours. I know this from first hand experience. I would probably call 911 if you get caught in the snow.

Haha I know it's not a laughing matter, but both my babies are pre-term babies.  34w1d and 35w  Now with both I had no signs because I am silent dialater.  No contractions!  Until the water brakes!  I had none of the cautions for it either.  I don't smoke, nor had an problems.  Crazy!  I do however want to help everyone know the early signs.  So people can ask me.  I feel bad for everyone who has to go through this, because it means the baby is in the NICU Neo-natal intensice care unit and for months or weeks.  It's horrid!  Sometimes babies don't make it and it breaks my heart!  :)  So Peek, it's a good thing you are posting stuff for this!!
