Questions after my first ultrasound

So I had an ultrasound done today due to some minor problems earlier in the week.  I thought I was around 5 weeks.  My gestational sac today measured 4 weeks 4 days and she thought she may have seen the beginnings of a yolk sac.  Also she saw that I have a cyst on my right ovary which she said is common in early pregnancy.  This was all told to me by the tech.  I did have quant. hcg levels done 1 week ago it was 174 and this Wednesday it was 2005 which seem good to me.  So here are my questions:
1)  Did anybody ever get diagnosed with an ovarian cyst in early pregnancy and if so what happened?
2)  My LMP was 02/02/10 and I normally have 31 day cycles,  I got a positive OPK on 02/17/10 which means I probably ovulated somewhere between 02/18-02/20.  I have tried going onto websites but they all have different answers.  Does a 4 week 4 day gestational sac seem right?
They are having my come back in 2 weeks to just check the baby (she said we should be able to see a fetal pole by then) and to check on my cyst.  Just kind of worried about these things but don't know if I should be especially since my hcg levels are rising.  Am I overthinking all this?

7yrslater and kristastewart - Thanks so much.  I guess I just don't really know what to expect because this is my first time being pregnant and it is all so new to me.  It's easier to give somebody else advice but then when it's you all that you do know goes right out the window.  The tech did not tell me what kind of cyst it was she just said they are common in early pregnancy.  It is so hard waiting another 2 weeks to go back but as long as there is growth and progress I will feel much better.  Especially if there is a heartbeat (I will be 6w 3 d).

Thanks again to everybody it's so comforting to know I am not alone with this.

Did she say that it was a corpus luteum cyst?  If so, then that is a very good sign.  A healthy sign of pregnancy. Everything looks great, I had the same thing happen..I thought I was a week farther along than the u/s said when I went for my first u/s.  I went back a week later and saw some healthy development then at 6w 3d we saw the heartbeat (my  3rd u/s) I know  waiting  is sooo hard this early on!

The same here. I had an ultrasound done at 6wks 3days and the tech said I have a cyst on my left ovary which is normal. That's let's her know which side I ovulated from and the cyst will shrink and go away. Just as nickie said, the cyst is what feeds the pregnancy until the placenta takes over. As for your gestational age. It varies so much. I did opk's and then when I went in for my ultrasound I was actually a few days farther along. It only off by a couple days so I wouldn't look to deep into things. Your numbers are a great. I'm sure your mind will be at some ease when you go back in. Good luck. Happy and healthy 9 months.

Most of the sites that have the ovulation or due date calculators etc, base their calculations on a 28 days cycle.  MY cycles are irregular running 29-35 days.  So If I plug in my lmp into one of those calculators it says i'm about a week further along than i really am.  I wouldn't worry.  Sounds like all is well.

That is really interesting.  I never heard that before.

losingmymind - thank you as well I was kind of worried about the days being off.  I know if you go by my LMP I should be like 5 weeks 3 days but I have 31 day cycles and had a positive OPK on 02/17/10 in the am with a negative one the night before so I think I ovulated a day or so after that so I am thinking it lines up ok but the sites I am going on all say different things.

Thanks again girls.

My doctor told me it is this cyst that creates the progesterone until the placenta takes over. I always had cysts when taking meds and this time around I didn't have one so that is why I was taking the progesterone suppositories until a few days ago :)

When you ovulate and the egg bursts through it can cause a cyst when you become pregnant that cyst may stay longer than during a normal cycle.  Some women get some pain from it others never know they have it.   As for the measurements being off by a few days from where you thought you should be is not at all uncommon.  If you ovulated a few days later than you expected it would account for that.  Your HCG levels look very good and having a gestational sac and possible beginning of a yolk sac are good as well.  In 2 weeks you will most likely see more..including a fetal pole and possibly a heartbeat.

Thanks ladies this is my first pregnancy so I am not really sure what to expect.  Just took me a little by surprise when they measured the gestational sac and then found the cyst.  I am not having any pain there so hopefully that's a good thing.  Thanks again.

I think everything sounds fine.  I had a cyst with my first - actually that is how we found out we were pregnant - went in for pain and they did us saw cyst prescribed pain killers - but wanted to do blood hcg as we were taking clomid and trying - test came back BFP! It went away on its own...

When I had my ultrasound last week they said I had a cyst also on the right and she also said it is very common in early pregnancy. I don't think anything can be done about it. For now I mean.
