Really need to get this labor started......

My daughter is 38 weeks pregnant with her first baby...my 1st grandbaby.  She is 38 weeks, she is a tiny girl and is an average "pregnant" size.  Baby is -2, effaced 70%, cervix about 1/2 dialated, back pains and lots of Braxton Hicks.  She is SO ready for this baby to come out (me too).  I am affraid that if she goes much longer, the baby will be to big for a natural birth.  She is taken Evening Primrose (2 a day orally) just started, lots of walking, always on the go.  Any suggestions?  I know in reality.....she will come when she is ready but anything we can do to speed her along..... ;)

Ok Moms~and grandmoms, let us know what worked for you.

Excerise ball, walking and massage for me.  My mom was really eager to get my baby out too.  So she came over everyday and rubbed all the "no no" pressure points.  So rub the heck out of her ankles and calfs.  They are suppose to induce labor...which it did in my case.  Every time after my mom would rub them I would get small contractions.  Then the day I went into labor we went for a long walk and afterwards she rubbed my legs for 30 minutes.  About two hours later I started getting really bad contractions, I went to the hospital about 4-5 hours after than and delivered the next day.  LOL the whole labor took about 21.5 hours....but it worked.  I wasnt dilated one bit, but I was almost completely effaced.
Good luck!

at 37 weeks I started walking, bouncing on my exercise ball, and had lots of sex, just like the advice Joy gave. I went into labor when I was 38 weeks 1 day....but my midwife also gave me castor oil that day because I was 4-5cm for 2 days and needed to get things going. The castor oil worked within a couple of hours. But basically, the baby will come when the baby is ready! Sounds like things are getting ready for her! And congrats on being a grandmom!! My mom just became a grandmom 3 weeks ago and loves every minute of it! And I am loving being a mommy! =)

Bouncing on an exercise ball gently, walking, sex (sperm softens the cervix).

If she is concerned about baby being large, then she needs to speak with her doctor. My youngest baby girl was born at 8 1/2 pounds and her collarbone broke during delivery. My doctor now wants every subsequent pregnancy to be induced at 38 weeks to prevent another one of my children from having to go through that pain. I am short (5'3") but every pelvis is different. Some tiny women can delivery 10 lb babies while a lot of larger women can't handle 7 lbs.

If the doctor determines baby is getting too large for birth canal, then they will induce her. They can strip her membranes now and that may jumpstart labor.

Congrats on being a grandmom soon!
