Smoking

I just found out I was pregnant at about 17 weeks, and was a daily Marijuana smoker. I have quit now that I know I'm pregnant, but I am still scared to death about going to jail or having my newborn taken away from me.  Especially after all the new laws passed in Tennessee. Does anyone else have experience with this type of situation? I know marijuana isn't the worst thing an expectant mother can do (example: abuse pain meds, meth, cocaine, etc) to her/unborn child. As I know marijuana still isn't the healthiest thing for you baby. Any input would be so greatly appreciated!

Be honest with your doctor! Let him/her know your next appointment.  And tell them that since you found out you were pregnant, you have stopped. They wont judge you or be mean to you..they will just make sure the baby is healthy. They will follow-up with you at every appointment and make sure you havent touched anything.  And as I said before, they will drug test you a couple times. As long as there is nothing in your system the last two times they drug test you, DHS will NOT be called.  Best of luck!

You belong on the show "I' didn't know I was pregnant" lol kidding. Did you have periods or something? What made you decide to get tested for pregnancy? Just curious. Bet that was a shocker at 17 weeks! Congrats though momma!! :) be honest with your doctor about the smoking though. You should be fine though hun. I love in michigan and medical marijuana is legal here. I smoked it before I found out I was pregnant. But as long as you don't smoke anymore then you should be fine. My doctor does a Urine sample every appointment to check for protein in urine. :) hope this helps.

I don't know about Tennessee being the worst. Georgia is, pretty bad. I stopped doing pills December 27. Then found out I was pregnant. I told them I was a addict,  they drug tested me. So did, my probation officer. But I'm almost 9 months clean, next month. Weed isn't the worst. Some dr even say do it, but n the end they will call dss. But goodluck. It shouldn't b a problem for you.

Im from baton rouge, the law is basically the same here. I would let your doctor know its in your system now, but that you've stop now that you've found out you were pregnant. Around here they test us every time we go in for the appointments. So the next time they **** test you or do blood work they will see your levels going down. && go from there. You can also drink a lot of fluid now so you can start flushing your system out.

I stopped smoking at 30 weeks. And after 5 weeks I did a screening with my dr and came back negative. They take a test 2 weeks before the baby is due and if you fail then then that's when the issues will arrive. If you quit now you're good. And no it does not harm the baby

Thank you so much for everyone's advice. It definitely makes me feel 1000x better. Have they passed any of these laws where you all are from? I've heard Tennessee is one of the worst/most strict on it. All of the stories I've heard on the news about ladies being thrown in jail have been for more serious drug usuage. Should I be clean for my 1st Dr appt. Or should I just be honest with them? I'm a 1st time mommy so ALL of this is so new to me.

Your fine. Just quit now. If you do it up til your like 8 months than they can find it in you and your baby's system and will get dhs involved. My friend had to take classes for it. But her doctor had told her it was ok yet they Called dhs? Idk. Just quit now. You'll be fine.

This is my second pregnancy and the second time I've had to stop smoking. As long as you stop now in the next 30 days it should be out of your system. And all your blood work will show you THC levels coming down showing doctors your trying to stop. You should be fine. And your baby as well :)

Let your doctor know. And they can drug test you, by a urine sample. They will do it three times. Once the first time u speak to ur doctor, another time around 30 weeks, and then they can again right before your due date. As long as your urine is clean the last two tests (especially the one right before birth), they can't take your baby from you.
