Soft Serve Ice Cream

This has been a topic of contaversy before here because some have said about the concern of listeria. Well, I learned today that most resturants are required by law to use pasturized milk...soooooo that means, no need to worry about soft serve...heading to DQ as we speak!!!!

I found this interesting so I thought I would throw my 2 cents in......I have never been a person to avoid this or that while pregnant(talking foods).  Of course I cut back on caffiene, but other then that I dont see the harm in eating things you like.  I dont agree when people say that by eating ice cream or deli meat your not giving your baby the best possible chance.  I dont see walking around with a cone in one hand and a sandwich in the other the same as walking around with a beer in one hand, cig. in mouth, and needle sticking out of the arm.  I dont drink, I dont smoke, I dont do drugs, and I take my prenatals everyday so If I wanna have a diet coke with dinner, then im going to do that..and if I want to stop by mcdonalds for a soft serve ice cream cone, well...im gonna do that too, and im not going to feel guilty about it at all,.

i have to agree with most everyone.....think about it....waay bak, and still today, people drink FRESH MILK FROM THE UDDER!!!!!

they ain't sick.....and lordy knows, farmers(aside from various religions), produce the largest, HEALTHIEST families.....

i've eaten some things in moderation as you should, but i HATE WATER(to drink), and plain bread is disgusting, so in all reality, if i was told "you can only have bread and water pregnant", i'd never have children...i know that sounds mean, but lol i'm a "healthy" girl, and i LOVE my steak n taters!!!!!

not only that, before the prenatal risks were discovered, and dr's started regulating certain foods, as star_girl says...
"Either way, woman have been carrying and delivering healthy babies for decades and im sure there were times where they ate and did things that we arent allowed to do now, but we all turned out fine, along with our parents and their parents, and so on! "

plus, there's no way in h*** i'm cooking hubby a nice dinner, just to eat rice myself....nuh huh no way.....he'd starve too!!!!!

I understand that there are many people out there TTC and yes we are the lucky ones on here that are pregnant....but msgorgeous is TTC and i dont think she minds that we are eating things that could possibly (doubtful) harm our baby and i know that gina suffered a miscarriage not that long ago and shes obviously just fine eating DQ.  They are right, im a wreck and try to do everything good for my baby but come on, a girl needs her DQ and for some her ham and cheese sammies!  Either way, woman have been carrying and delivering healthy babies for decades and im sure there were times where they ate and did things that we arent allowed to do now, but we all turned out fine, along with our parents and their parents, and so on!  Im going to DQ tonight and i cant wait to get a yummy blizzard!!!

So if we were to go by what you said we wouldn't be able to drink milk either??? They are required by law to use pasturized milk for the ice cream, so if you say its not safe, wouldn't our Dr's also be saying no milk?

i spoke to my doctor about both Deli Meats and milk products.

For Deli meats all you have to due in steam them or grill them.. then you put them in a Tupperware container and they can be refrigerated again.... so not hot deli sandwiches needed. :)

and as for milks anything made with pasteurized milk is A OKAY :) i too love yummy ice cream....

I've heard of lots of foods you should steer clear of during pregnancy, but don't remember soft serve being one of them.  I know that 'listeria' is a big worry ..."OMG!  Don't eat a ham and cheese sandwich because it could kill your baby!!"  I agree with Gina209 about this ...if we avoid everything that could harm us ...well, we might as well live in a bubble.  If something is going to happen ...then it will happen ...fate, destiny, whatever.  I'm not going to stop driving my car to the store because I could get into an accident ... I'm not going to stop taking showers because I might slip in the tub ... I'm not going to stop eating my **delicious** ham and cheese sandwiches with pickles and mayo (or soft serve, or raw veggies, or fresh fruit) just because I have a chance of getting listeria.  I'm sorry if I upset anyone who thinks I should avoid anything that could harm my baby ...but, to be honest, there are women out there doing even worse things to themselves and their babies (drinking/drugs) ...so don't berate me for my ham sandwich!  =D

Wow, I have never heard of dont eat soft serve, if it is pasturized like MOST American products (not all) there should be no harm.  We drink milk that is only sitting in the fridge and eat cheese.  I didnt eat deli meats while pregnant because of possible listeria and not only that but I didnt want to order a sandwich from somewhere and not know all the perservatives they stick it in.

My doctor said the same thing...she said Soft Serve was completely fine!! She said if we Pregnant ladies avoided foods that "may" or "could" contain listeria than we would be living off of bread and water! LOL So many foods can get this bacteria, almost anything in your fridge. So I'm like screw it..if I'm avoiding something that "could possibly" happen than I might as well not eat or drink anything! I've been enjoying soft serve once a week and my doctor said thats perfectly fine!
It's risky to walk down the street...or to our car..we could slip and fall, get mugged, etc etc..but we still do it each and every day! If we all tried to avoid risks we'd live our entire Pregnancy in our beds! Enjoy your ice cream girl!!

Still a no-no with the icecream - not worth the risk if you ask me.... You can eat any food if you must (including deli meats etc) if they are very very hot and eaten immediately so as to kill any bacteria (listeria) but unfortunately you cannot kill bacteria in soft serve no matter how it is served. Hot soft serve doesnt sound too appealing lol...
Why risk it? Be grateful you are one of the lucky ones who are able to get pregnant. There are many who are still unable too and would do anything to be in our shoes. So its a bit of kick in the face to them when preggo's take risks like this.

Im not one to be opinionated It just frustrates me seeing people take uneccessary risks in there pregnancy. A few months with a few restrictions isnt a big ask.

Sorry to offend anyone just my opinion

Man oh man! I had no idea about ice cream when I was preggo, but ice cream isn't really my thing.

What I always wanted was DELI MEAT! Which also carries a risk of listeriosis.
