Spider veins or blood clot???

So while I was shaving my legs today I noticed the back of my leg behind my knee was sore. I tried to look at it but couldnt see much since my legs have gotten so huge this pregnancy. Well a few mins after pulling on my leg I see what looks like a bruise. I was thinking spider veins. I have gotten a few of them from the last 3 pregnancys here and there on my boobs and thighs but I have never seen more than one blue looking vein, nothing like this! I told my MIL about it and she keeps telling me to go to the doctors. She says its a blood clot, and I need to go ASAP. I love my MIL but she thinks if one of my kids had a cough that he is dying. The fact that she hasnt seen it makes me wonder too. So my question for you ladies is......does this look and sound like a blood clot?? Its a little sore to the touch, but honestly if I hadnt been shaving I wouldnt have noticed it. Sorry the picture is so bad I had to lift my leg and take it from behind.  Any advise would be great! Also there seems to be an indent by the bruise, dont know if that helps.

I have something that looks exactly like that on the back of my leg where it bends and only noticed it after i was shaving and my doctor just said it was veins, so i'm pretty sure that's the case for you as well :)

Thanks but its not too bad today, as in sore. I think it was just sore from messing with it. Its not warm or cool to the touch, just normal. Im going to keep an eye on it and call my doctor if it gets worse. My legs have gotten so big!! I wish I knew if it was from sweeling or just all the weight I have put on:( Summer is going to be great fun, lol!

Interestingly enough I opened my pregnancy book today and the topic for this week in my pregnancy was... BLOOD CLOTS! They said blood clots are sore/painful, warm to touch, and can be inflammed.

Most likely it is OK.  But I have a few questions.  You said it is sore to touch.  Does the area feel warm?  When sitting and laying your leg out striaght across the couch - Does it hurt when you pull your toes toward your body? Those are signs of a blood clot.
It could very well be spider veins as well.  However, if one of the veins rupture or bleed (which they commonly do) you can get a blood clot from the bleeding.  If you weren't pregnant I wouldn't think anything of it.  If it is warmer then other areas of your skin or if it hurts when pulling your toes up I would call your Dr in the AM and just ask for their opinion. Always better to be safe then sorry!  : )

I have the exact same problem. Right behind my right knee is a glob of really super dark veins. When i am on my feet for awhile it starts to hurt. I was tols it was spider veins. i freaked out at first because this is my 3rd pregnancy and never had it before with any of the others. When i am on my feet for a long time it feels like the veins are kinda throbing. I hate it it is so super ugly. i hope it fades once i have the baby. I think all the extra weight I have put on has alot to do with it. Maybe you should call your ob and just ask if it anything to be concerned about. That might put your mind at ease. Good luck to you

Thanks ladies! What ever it is, its uglier than sin, lol! Aww the joys pf pregnancy, lol! I wonder if I got this because of how much weight I have put on?? I dont even reconize my legs anymore:( I used to be so proud of my legs too, lol. I guess 2 pregnancys back to back will do this to anyone:( My other spider veins have never went away, do you think this will???

I dont think is bruise, it looks much like spider veins, i have quite few of them my selfe and that's the way i know.i believe there isn't much to do about them as i was told be my Dr, but still mention it to your Dr.

i have veiny looking things on the back of my legs as well, they are pretty alarming looking but dr said they are just veins. mine are red with a bit of purple. from the picture yours looks more purple.....hard to tell. i wouldnt worry personally but show your dr next visit forsure. mine hurt sometimes too.

I'd call tomorrow morning and see if they think it's important for you to come in. I always get bruises in the WEIRDEST places and I can never figure out where I get them. I don't really know what a blood clot looks like so I'm not any help.

It really could be a bruise- which is what it looks like. I'd get it checked out for sure at your next appointment. When is your next appt.?
