Still trying to figure out...

How long does it take for sperm to get to the egg and fertilize it before a woman gets pregnant, im thinking 3-7 days because thats what my doctor told me but I keep reading different info online

Well the sperm usually meet the egg and fertilize fairly quickly...but what you're thinking about is "implantation" (which is when a woman technically becomes pregnant...because an egg can be fertilized but if it never implants, pregnancy does not happy).

And you're right....but usually the doctors say more like 4-7 days. After 7 days most likely the egg wont survive because it has to implant and begin absorbing nutrients or it will die....and it takes about 4 days for it to move down the fallopian tubes and burrow into the lining of your uterus (implant)....SOME women will implant as quickly as 3 days, but the average is 4-7. After this...the implanted, fertilized egg will begin to release hCG and pregnancy has occurred...you can usually detect it a few days later on a sensitive pregnancy test...sometimes as soon as 8 days after ovulation :-).
