Stripping membranes

I am 38 1/2 weeks and my doctor said that I'm dialated to 2 cm and he stripped my membranes yesterday. Has anyone ever had this done and if so, did it do anything to speed up labor? I haven't noticed that I lost my mucus plug yet. I do get alot of menstrual like cramps in my lower abdomen. No contractions yet that I know of.

If it doesnt do anything this week I think I'll see if my doctor can do it again next week when I see him. The only thing I've really experienced since having my membranes stripped is pretty bad abdominal cramping that will last for about 30 sec or a little longer. I'm not sure if these are considered contractions since this is my first! However, this only happens about once/twice per day. I also haven't lost my mucus plug either, which I thought usually happens if they strip your membranes. but I have also heard that you don't always know/see it when you do.

Worked for me in two pregnancies. If it works it typically works within 24-48 hours. Walk, walk, walk!

I had it done with my son. They did it as 39 weeks and nothing happened except painful cramps. They did it again at 40 weeks and I went into labor an hour later (not sure if it was from the stripping or that it was just my time. :))
