**Tdap

Is It Bad If I Refuse To Get The Tdap Vaccine?? I Understand That It's Recommended But I'm Not Paying $80 For Something I've Never Had To Worry About . & Plus Don't They Give The Babies A Shot To Protect Them From Having Pertussis?

Im not sure why your wouldn't cover it I also have United health care. It is,recommended bc babies cannot receive that vaccine until at least 2 months of age. So it protects you from getting it as well as passing it to your baby until it can be vaccinated. And ik where I live this year pertussis is ridiculous and it's only end of October. So needless to say I got mine on Monday at my appt. Best thing to do if you want to get the shot is call the member number on the back of your ins card and talk to them about it and your coverage etc.

@Danicaantle that is not how it works. When pregnant the tdap shot will pass through the placenta, that is why it is recommended during the last few weeks of pregnancy. If you get the vaccine it will be passed to the baby making it so the baby is vacinized as well. So that way if someone has the whooping cough and they end up coming in contact with your baby the baby will be safe from catching the whooping cough.

I'm pregnant with baby 4 and I've never gotten it. It would protect the baby from me giving it to them but i don't think it makes sense to get it because obviously not everyone who comes into contact with your baby will have the shot so they could still possibly get it from them.

I didn't get it or the the flu shot with my first and I don't plan to this time either. It's recommended, but you don't NEED to have it.

You can go to Costco and get it for $14.99 without insurance. You don't have to have a Costco membership to use their pharmacy. Hope that helps a little :)

I had a midwife recommend I don't get it. She was not my midwife, so I will still be getting mine. But just keep in mind that a lot of women don't get it and have perfectly healthy babies. Don't let provacinators scare you intodoing something that you can't afford.

Well was my doctor trying to take my money then or something. Because , I figured if my insurance covered the flu shot why would it not cover the Tdap shot? Something sounds fishy .

Getting the Tdap vaccine enables you to pass the protective antibodies to your baby. Its a short term protection for baby and it also can protect baby from more serious complications that come along with whooping cough.
