hi my periods also late by 19 days which my periods are never late they come to the exact day as of always! i took a home pregnancy test at 7 days late it was negative and then i took another one at 14 days late also negative but i'm also getting pregnancy symptoms feeling sick sore breasts with bright blue veins through my nipples dizzy ness mild heaaches so on and this morning i've woke with diariah which i've heard is also a symptom!!! i went to the doctors on monday and i told the doctor and she said the same to me at first that i can't do you a blood test so i said but i've got all the syptoms and also me and my husband have been trying to conceive for 3 years so i'm really really nervous waiting and waiting for my period to come or to be finally pregnant so in the end she said ok i'll send you for a blood test but she said to me that they're not normally allowed to until your periods 4 weeks late why i don't know i think it's cos it costs them money so if it comes back negative it's like a waste to them but they don't realise our pain!!! but also i live in spain so i don't know the rules for other countries!!! back in england i got told that they do the blood test without questions!!! i'm havng my blood took this friday and then i should get the reasults the following wednesday i will keep you informed on how i get on! why don't you try going back to your doctor and explain to them or try and hold on for another week then go back i'd like to hear how you get on please keep us informed good luck!!!
usually they want to check the urine first and then if it is negative they will probably do a blood test
hcg blood tests are expensive so your ob doesn't want to run one unless he can first confirm you are pregnant
I don't know - my ob's office usually do urine tests - but they want to do it with first morning urine -since I work I can't get there with FMU - so they always opt to do blood tests with both of pregnancies, b/c it was more convienient. They didn't ask any questions or anything, actually it was their IDEA - if you aren't happy with the service you are receiving, maybe you can find a different OB - different doctor's have different rules that they follow and you need to be happy and comfortable with your practicioner - so look into different ob's if that is an option.
But for now I would just do the urine test and wait and see what happens.
More than likely it's because if you are pregnant and you are that late for your period then it will show up on a urine test. Let the doc do it and see what it comes up
